The historical part of any city is always something unusual, beautiful, exciting. Both locals and tourists like to walk along the old streets, enjoying the breath of time.
But there are also some people who feel especially acutely connected with bygone eras. And they like to live in areas that have existed for a long time. There is a special charm in this. Especially for them, we have selected 8 historical areas from all over Cyprus, where you can comfortably live or stay for a long vacation.
1. Old Town in Paphos
We would like to start with a location literally stuffed with antiquities. Paphos is entirely included in the UNESCO Heritage list.
The Old town of Paphos on the map
The Old Town is a small and very cozy area, located literally in the very center. It has no direct access to the sea, but the beach can be reached on foot in some 15 minutes. Plus, the Old Town is located on a hill, so the views from it are simply wonderful.

The area itself is a tangle of narrow quiet streets, some of which are strictly pedestrian. There are quite a lot of places for recreation, including cultural, and there is all the necessary infrastructure.
Most of the buildings are old houses that are a hundred years old. They are carefully restored with the condition of preserving the historical appearance, so residents and guests get the opportunity to live comfortably and at the same time not lose "connection with the past".
There are also new buildings, but all of them do not exceed 4 floors. This is an important rule for Paphos — no high-rise buildings in the center. All in the name of not spoiling the authentic look of the city.

In addition, from the Old Town you can quickly and easily walk to the Archaeological Park of Paphos and the old fortress (on the coast), the Royal Tombs and the business district of Kato Paphos. So the location of the district is top-end.
A few examples of real estate in the Old Town:
- luxury 4 bedroom villa with sea view;
- three-bedroom apartment with sea view;
- three-bedroom penthouse on the 5th floor;
- one-bedroom apartment in a gated complex.
2. Limassol Old Town
Another area worthy of attention not only for tourists, but also for those who want to permanently reside in Limassol. This is a fairly large area, which is located in the very center of the city and captures part of the coastal territory, including the Old Port.
Limassol Old Town on the map
The charm of old Limassol is narrow cobbled streets, low old houses, entwined with ivy—like plants, cozy restaurants and cafes. And the area boasts a large number of churches and museums. Literally at every step you can find buildings dating back to the XVIII century and even earlier times.

The infrastructure here is developed, but it should be borne in mind that it is more focused on tourists. The business center is the neighboring areas of Limassol, which can literally be reached on foot. Also within walking distance there are beaches and nice walking areas (along the embankment and just around the city).
A few examples of real estate in the historical area of Limassol:
- one-bedroom apartment near the Molos embankment;
- double apartment in a new building, 5 minutes to the sea;
- double penthouse with city and sea views;
- luxury 3-bedroom apartment in a nice new complex.

3. Amathus area, Limassol
This suburb of Limassol is considered elite — business and luxury class housing is located here. This is a quiet and peaceful place with developed infrastructure, excellent roads to the city center (10 minutes by car) and the nearby excavations of the ancient city of Amathus.
Amathus on the map
It is quite comfortable to rest here, but Amathus is also good for life. In the area there are all kinds of shops, cafes and restaurants, water entertainment and diving centers, several clean sandy beaches.

But the most important thing that made it possible to include Amathus in our TOP is the close location of the excavations. If you want to live in a place with long history, then you will be most pleased in Amathus. We especially recommend apartments facing the excavations.
Here are some good real estate options in Amatus:
- one-bedroom apartment in an elite new building with sea view
- two-storey villa with a swimming pool and a large house territory
- four-bedroom villa with sea view on the first line.

4. Skala area in Larnaca
Let's start a review of Larnaca (the oldest city in Cyprus, by the way) from this small and very controversial area. In the narrow sense of the word under Skala is an area running from the Larnaca Fortress to the Mackenzie area along the Piale Pasha embankment.
Skala on the map
Skala is divided into new and old. In the old (the most colorful, if viewed from the point of view of a person interested in history) part there are small houses, some of which have fallen into disrepair. The thing is that Greek Cypriots who fled after the 1974 conflict live here. Many properties in old Skala are owned by people who do not live here, but no one has the right to confiscate them. Therefore, the government temporarily settled refugees there.

New Skala is the beginning of a trendy suburban Mackenzie neighborhood, and everything looks different here. Chic new buildings, closed high-rise complexes appear right on the embankment, and life is in full swing. The infrastructure of the Rock-Mackenzie is distinguished by its development, it is as comfortable as possible to live and spend vacations here.
In addition, all real estate is a tasty morsel from the point of view of investment — now it has a reasonable price. But the demand will clearly grow in the next few years, as foreign buyers have become interested in the location. If you buy apartments in a new building now, in a few years they can be sold or rented at a very attractive price.

You can live in an excellent new building, and walk along the old narrow streets and observe the real Cypriot "hinterland". It's very inspiring.
Here are a couple of real estate examples:
- new high-rise residential complex NAOC;
- one-bedroom apartment in the city center, near the Salt Lake.
- Also take a closer look at the Mackenzie area. It's just a stone's throw from Skala.
5. The center of Larnaca
Of course, the central part of Larnaca is full of historical sights. Here you can find a connection with history literally at every step: from museums to sites with ancient excavations.
We recommend you to see the TOP 10 historical buildings of Larnaca - they are in our article.
At the same time, the historical center is the most developed in terms of infrastructure. Here you can live and work, raise children, play sports, walk, attend interesting events and so on.

It is worth noting that property in the center of Larnaca is not worth much, especially when compared with Paphos and Limassol real estate. This plays a big role for those buyers who are interested in investing. Experts predict that housing in Larnaca will soon become more expensive. This is due to increased demand and the construction that has begun.
Here are a few options for an example:
- one-bedroom apartment in a new complex with a swimming pool
- double apartments in an elite new building
- double penthouse in a luxury new building with sea view
- two-storey penthouse with 2 bedrooms overlooking the sea and the harbor.

6. Central part of Nicosia
Nicosia is the capital of Cyprus. There are no beaches here, but it has no less rich history than any other city on the island.
The main attraction of the center is the Venetian walls and several buildings dating back to the same period (approximately XV century). Also, this part of the city is ennobled by parks, squares and has its own pedestrian street - Ledra.

You can learn more about the sights of the capital in our article.
In the meantime, we will offer several options for those who want to live in the heart of Cyprus:
- four-bedroom penthouse in an elite new building with a view of Nicosia
- double apartment in an elite new building.
Please note that the infrastructure in Nicosia is the most developed, except for Limassol. If you are used to the rhythm of life in the metropolis, then you will be as comfortable as possible here.
7. Omodos Village, Limassol
One of the largest villages that have preserved their national flavor. At the same time, Omodos has managed to adapt to modern realities, and now it offers conditions for a comfortable rest and a permanent life.

Omodos on the map
If you have always dreamed of living in a clean, beautiful, natural place and enjoying delicious food, then Omodos will definitely appeal to you. It is famous not only for its beauty, museums and ancient churches, but also for national dishes: it is here that the famous crispy bread of arcatena is baked, wine and zivania are made, jams and sudjuk are prepared.

Real estate in Omodos is good not only for living, but also for renting out. The fact is that the village is a tourist destination, which means that the demand for housing here is always high.
8. Lefkara Village, Larnaca
It is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful villages in Cyprus. And at the same time one of the biggest. So it's a pleasure to relax and live here. Lefkara has a developed infrastructure, but at the same time the historical appearance of both houses and streets has been preserved.
Lefkara on the map
The village is located in the foothills, at an altitude of 650 meters above sea level. Needless to say, the scenery here is simply amazing? Locals and tourists like to walk not only through the village streets, but also along natural hiking trails, of which there are quite a lot.

Local crafts should be mentioned separately. They create the finishing touch in the appearance of Lefkara. Women are traditionally engaged in embroidery (lefkaritika), and you can still meet embroidery Cypriots on the streets. Men also make jewelry from silver. You can buy them at any souvenir shop in Cyprus, but to talk to the master who made earrings, rings or necklaces — only here, in Lefkara.
