Хроники кипрской саги о паспортах. Часть 4.

New details of the investigation of possible abuses and violations during the naturalization of investors have become known.

The positions of the Prosecutor General and the General Auditor of Cyprus differ on this: the latter is experiencing difficulties with the verification, since the government refuses to provide cases of a number of investors. Which is suspicious.

The Investigative Committee has completed 18 investor cases behind the Cyprus casino establishment. There are 70 more cases to be considered of persons who received citizenship as shareholders of large companies operating in Cyprus.

A spokesman for the department, Marios Petridis, said that the results of the investigation will be published as soon as it is completed.

In an interview with Alpha TV, he said that, according to preliminary results, both 18 passports of persons involved in the creation of the casino and 70 others were obtained free of charge and without any investment.

The Ministry of Finance of Cyprus claims that 18 people received Cypriot citizenship on completely legal grounds and the decision on their naturalization was made by the Cabinet of Ministers of Cyprus. Their investment in casinos is around € 600,000,000 and will create thousands of jobs. In 2019, government revenues from casinos exceeded € 28,000,000. The salary fund for the year was € 18,000,000.

The Ministry of Finance claims that 18 newly minted citizens of Cyprus are shareholders of Melco, one of the leaders in the global gambling business.

Who is right in this story? We'll find out soon.

Police issued search warrants for those who participated in the Al Jazeera documentary.

Police also reportedly checked the office of former Speaker of Parliament Demetris Silluoris, former AKEL MP, Christakis Giovanis and lawyer Andreas Pittadjis, who are featured in the video.

All collected data will be carefully examined. It is noted that investigations based on the scandalous video of the Al Jazeera TV channel continue. The police are currently unable to provide more detailed information.
