While the child is very young, the nursery is arranged more for the convenience of parents. But as the child grows up, he or she begins to need to use personal belongings independently.
Children are not always able to maintain order in their room. However, it is possible, if you can intelligently organize places for storage and show your child how convenient it is to use them. Here are 8 topical ideas that will help you to organize the children's room so that the child and and the parents are both happy.
Hint: in Cyprus, the rooms are quite large. Therefore, in our article, we will talk not so much about things that save space, but about items that will be convenient for the child to use.
1. Modified bed
It would seem that this is not such a new idea. But modern designers have found something to surprise. Today, a child's bed (for any age) is equipped not only with the usual drawers for storing bedding but with everything you can wish for: shelves, racks, sliding elements, and even built-in toys!
The popular bed-house deserves special attention. As a rule, it carries several functions at once:
- sleeping place;
- a playground;
- sometimes - a place for drawing and creativity;
- cabinets of any format and size.
Bed-house forms a child's interest in focusing his actions on one place. In addition, keeping the sleeping corner clean and tidy is much more pleasant than other parts of the room. So, a bed-house is a great solution for all ages. Its only disadvantage is its high price.
2- Fabric pockets
Contrary to the previous point, one of the most budget-friendly options for storage. It is also highly portable and easy to clean - if necessary, a fabric product can be easily put in the machine and washed.
Hint: pockets can be sewn yourself or ordered. In any case, their manufacture will not require special skills, a lot of time, or money.
The pocket can be large and one-section. For example, all the soft toys will "sleep" there. Like Santa's sack, it can be voluminous and very capacious. It can be hung on door handles or hooks attached to the wall.
Another option is a single multi-section pocket that can be hung on the wall, the door of the room, or even inside the closet. This will be a kind of organizer, where the child can not only store things but also sort them. It is better if the order of storage will determine the baby himself, and not his parents - so accustomed to cleanliness in the room will go much faster and more pleasant.
Pockets can be attached to Velcro, on the backs of chairs or beds, on wall hooks, on suction cups, and on tripods. In general, there is a lot of room for imagination.
3. labeled boxes
If the child is still a preschooler, then for him an excellent option for storing toys and some things will be boxes or boxes of medium size. It is desirable that they were equipped with an easy-to-open lid and stand on the floor or a small elevation. Then the baby himself can use them, take out and remove toys when he needs.
Drawers themselves are one of the oldest ways to store things. But a fresh idea of labeling works well here. As an example: parents print out bright, clear images and stick them on the lids or sides of boxes/drawers. This way the child can familiarize himself with the sorting of things and get used to it without any problems.
Of course, the toys themselves will be difficult to separate: children's logic is sometimes inexplicable. But if you do it together with the child, the matter will go much easier.
4. closet or chest of drawers - what is better?
If the space in the nursery allows (and we remember that Cyprus usually has spacious layouts), it is better to buy both. This is especially true if the child is not alone.
But, if you have to make a choice, you should give preference to a chest of drawers. Opening the drawer and taking out/stacking items in it is given to preschoolers and younger schoolchildren much easier. Again, the dresser does not have a lot of compartments, and the child will not get confused. Finally, to make a mess in the dresser is more difficult than in the closet.
A full-fledged closet is more appropriate in the room of a teenager. In a younger child is better to put a chest of drawers or mini closet.
5. Pantry in the nursery
Any niche or a piece of the whole wall is better to enclose so that it becomes a full-fledged pantry. It will be convenient to store things that are rarely used, as well as seasonal clothes.
It is not always necessary to install a door in the pantry. In most cases, a bright and interesting curtain will do. If the child is over 10 years old, you can replace the door with a growth mirror.
Perhaps the most difficult thing in the realization of this moment - is to convey to children that the pantry should not pile things as they are and what they are. To do this, you need to organize a clear storage system (for example, with the same labeled boxes) and work on discipline.
6. Shelves above the desk
Fancy shelves are best placed above the desk. There, they won't get in the way or be a distraction or a danger to the child. Of course, a well-fixed shelf is unlikely to fall. But, if the baby likes to jump on the bed, and the shelf hangs just above it, he can simply hit his head.
For children of any age (up to older teenagers) it is recommended to choose unusual models with thematic design. In other words, the shelf should be in the form of something or someone. If you find it difficult to find what your child wants - do some creative work with him.
With the help of decoupage or ordinary painting, you can turn any, of the most boring Ikea shelves into a work of art. Plus, your child will be proud that he or she decorated it himself or herself and will start using it with great pleasure.
7. Shelves above windows or doors
This option is suitable for storing things that aren't used too often. For older children, the shelves should be easily accessible (a special ladder will do), for younger children this option is not suitable. More precisely, it can be realized, but it will be temporarily used only by parents.
The shelf mustn't protrude too much above the window or door. The maximum width of such a "mezzanine" - is 20 cm. And it is better not to make it closed, otherwise you can create a feeling of unwieldiness. Optimally, it will be a shelf for storing light things: books, jewelry, cups, and diplomas.
8. Place under the window sill
If the window sill is wide enough, then there can be a real spread. From the top you can equip a place for creativity, and from the bottom - to build in as many shelves or drawers as possible. As in the previous paragraph, you need to be careful not to make this detail of the interior bulky. Sometimes it is better to abandon closed designs in favor of open ones. But, again, this option may not be suitable for children, who find it difficult to maintain perfect order.
This option of storage space should be planned - even at the stage of repairing the room. In addition, it is quite costly, although it is very, very convenient in the end.
