New coastal pedestrian and bicycle roads will soon appear in the tourist area of Sotira (near Ayia Napa).
Recently, the municipality of Sotira submitted an application to the Department of Town Planning and Housing.
According to local officials, this project will significantly decorate the coast and open up great prospects for new investments.
In particular, Giorgos Takkas stressed that Cypriot and foreign investors are showing great interest in the construction of hotel complexes in the coastal area of Sotira. In the last year alone, the Department of Urban Planning received 4 applications for the construction of hotels. As expected, after the improvement of the coast, the interest of investors will increase even more.
Takkas noted that the architectural plans of the coastal pedestrian and bike path were recently submitted to the Department of Town Planning and Housing for approval. The competent service is now conducting research to avoid any misunderstandings as the area is part of the Natura protected area.
According to the release, the new coastal pedestrian and bike path will have a total length of about three and a half kilometers. At the same time, the width of the pedestrian road will be six meters, and the bicycle one - three meters.
In addition, the Mayor of Sotira and the Mayor of Ayia Napa recently held a joint meeting with the project designer. As it turned out, they want to lengthen the section of the new road by 200-300 meters so that pedestrians and cyclists can walk comfortably and without hindrance right to Ayia Napa's new marina.
The main goal of the local authorities is to create a single coastal line that will connect the Liopetri River with Ayia Napa via Sotira.
We expect the project will soon be approved by the Department of Town Planning and Housing and around mid-2022 we will be able to start construction. There are some challenges and obstacles that we believe will be overcome. We may be the first municipality in Cyprus to form our coastal strip and then license the construction of hotels in the area, Takkas said.
The project cost is estimated at 4 million euros. The implementation period will be 18 months.
