In the summer, Cyprus gets really hot. The local authorities repeatedly warn about the danger of the weather conditions.
So, our first piece of advice is to stay home under the air conditioner and watch classic world cinema without the risk of heatstroke. But if it so happens that the powerful heat doesn't let you stay on the couch, try the following. But we warned you!)
Snorkeling
Alright, after generously applying sunscreen (SPF no less than 50) and putting on special protective swimwear, head to the sea. Along the way, in a small shop, you can buy excellent masks for just 10 euros and snorkel from morning till evening, exploring the not-so-rich underwater world of the Mediterranean. Opt for rocky beaches where the seabed is more interesting, and where, if lucky, you might encounter crabs, starfish, octopuses, and even turtles. For example, White Stones or Ladies' Mile.
Diving
Even more exciting and sunburn-safe would be spending the day on the seabed with a scuba tank on your back. Unfortunately, nothing sank in Akrotiri Bay, so the authorities had to sink two ships for tourism development: the 22-meter ship Lady Thetis to a depth of 20m and the 27-meter fishing boat Constantis to a depth of 25m. In general, in Limassol, it's not very deep, not more than 27m. Not sure how reassuring that sounds to novice divers.
Strolls along Limassol Marina
If you managed to wait at home under the air conditioner until evening, you can safely take a walk along the beautiful Molos promenade and reach the old port, where you can take some photos of yachts against the sunset backdrop while dressed in a colorful dress and a hat, pretending to be a high art model. You can congratulate yourself on a successful photo shoot at any of the numerous bars in the same location.
Boat Trips
You'll find a few yachts that offer sea excursions for tourists right there in the Old Port. You can either choose a large catamaran with a disco or smaller yachts for 5-6 people. And if desired, you can even negotiate with a fisherman and go on a boat with him to welcome the sunrise at sea. Tourists who make it there and leave a review often claim that the sea trip was the best day of their vacation.
Mountain Hiking
An obvious and very popular way to escape the heat is to go for a hike to a mountain stream. There are several not far from Limassol. Here you can stand in the icy spray of a waterfall and, as a bonus, catch a cold. And then spend two hot weeks at home in bed.
Yachting
If you're lucky enough to own a long-sleeved linen shirt with a hood, then head to the local yacht club. Here, you'll be greeted with open arms by equally restless friends. And the chance of experiencing a storm in Cyprus in summer and subsequently giving up yachting forever, thereby saving a ton of money, is non-existent! The sky on the island is cloudless and calm during summer. Yacht clubs can be found in the city's marinas. Also, near the Four Seasons hotel's harbor.
Water Sports
Choose any of the water sports rental points along the city's coastline. And while your neighbor is watching Kusturica for the third time, you'll be racing the waves on a paddleboard, imagining yourself as a modern Aphrodite. Although she was carelessly naked. Although, it's not excluded that she had already applied SPF sunscreen in advance.
Excursions to Archaeological Sites
If during a conversation with your neighbor, it turns out that they've already visited Tarkovsky, and you have "nothing to cover," you can counter by saying that Roman baths are not only in Italy. And hurry to the "Amathus" archaeological site, where you can also get sunburned and suffer heatstroke if you get there before 5 pm. But we guarantee that the baths are there, along with mysterious tombs and a possibility of stumbling upon historical pottery.
Ice Skating
There's one ice rink in Limassol. It's very small. But during this time of year, you really want to experience real ice. After a short skate, you can immediately head down to the minus one floor of My Mall for some bowling. This idea is great for parents who miss the screams of their beloved kids.
Museums
All state museums and art galleries are well air-conditioned. It's an excellent way to cool off and spend time usefully for the mind. Start with the Cyprus Archaeological Museum - Archeological Museum of the Lemesos District. Nearby, there's also the Limassol Public Gallery of Contemporary Art. Having soaked in Cypriot art, you can round off the experience at any seaside bar. For example, Red Cafe or Columbia.
Art Galleries
Separately, we can provide a list of private art galleries, which almost weekly change their exhibitions and hold noisy openings with wine and music on Fridays and Saturdays. We recommend checking out Exhibit 8 Gallery, Gallery55, Gallery Morfi, for instance. Additionally, you'll stroll through the streets of the old city, which is lively and festive during this time of year.
Theatres
Continuing along the cultural development vector, the next step is to visit Cypriot theaters. For example, "Pattihio," where many interesting events have been taking place lately, including in Russian. There's also a smaller theater in Limassol - "Rialto," and a few more small but cozy theaters in the old city. Sometimes performances are even held in the ancient Roman Amphitheatre. You can check the schedule and buy tickets on the website soldoutickets.com.cy.
Cinema
Mass-market and sometimes watchable movies in English, Russian, and Greek are screened at the Cineplex cinema. The most significant novelties of world cinema "swim" to the island simultaneously with the rest of Europe.
Interest-Based Clubs
And finally... In Limassol, recently, several interesting spaces or clubs have opened where various lectures and workshops are held for every taste. There you can spend your time interestingly and make new acquaintances. Here are some of them: the Hil, Wespace, Lectorium.
