Cyprus knows how to surprise. At first, it seems that the island is just one big postcard with beaches and cocktails against the backdrop of the sea, but as soon as you turn off the tourist route, the scenery changes sharply. Instead of sun loungers, there are trails among the pines; instead of bars, a campfire and quiet gatherings (with a guitar?); instead of the noise of resorts, the chirping of nocturnal insects.
So where are the best places in Cyprus for camping that are really worth taking a tent and setting off on a little adventure? They are scattered across the island in specific spots, and in fact, they can be reached from different cities. By car, of course.

Mountain Troodos: a refuge from the heat
The Troodos Mountains are a classic choice for lovers of camping, nature, and long walks (including uphill, until you sweat buckets). At altitude, the air is cooler than on the coast throughout the summer. The scent of pine replaces any aromatherapy session. Music comes not from clubs, but from the wind in the branches. Romance!
Reference! It is no coincidence that locals buy country houses and summer homes in the mountains. Only here can you escape the unbearable heat.
Troodos Camping
A place of the same name for picnics and for “pitching” tents and motorhomes. It is located not far from the Kavoonas — Troodos (village) road. The main advantage of the campsite is its well-thought-out infrastructure:
- showers;
- toilet;
- drinking water;
- cooking areas where you can make a fire;
- tables and benches;
- restaurant.
In short, it has everything, but without the feeling of civilization looming insistently behind your back. The campsite area is huge and can accommodate 170 tents (up to 650 people). However, at the height of the season, free corners disappear rather quickly. This place is consistently included in lists of the best camping sites on the island.
Price: 5 euros per tent/day, motorhomes — depending on the length of stay.

Platania
The Platania site is located near the village of Kakopetria (landmark — the forestry station), and it is considered the largest in Cyprus. There is no electricity here, but everything else is available: water, kitchens, showers, and fire areas.
But the best thing about this campsite is the routes around it, which run through pine forests and wonderful viewpoints. It is definitely worth staying here for at least a few days: to unwind, walk to your heart’s content, and cook delicious food over the fire.
Price: 2 euros for a small tent, 3 euros for a large tent per day.

Kampi tou Kalogirou
The campsite between Prodromos and the Trooditissa Monastery stretches across a large area, which allows it to accommodate many guests (up to 80 tents/motorhomes). The area combines a campsite and a picnic site, so you can also stop by here briefly: for just one day.
The camping infrastructure here is more modest than in the previous options. But it is in this location that you can find “that very feeling” for which people spend the night in a tent.

The protected coast of Polis: Polis Chrysochous Bay
The town called Polis has long become a reference point for those planning a trip to Cyprus not for hotels. In fact, it is hard to imagine a better place for camping: it is located in a eucalyptus grove right by the sea. Morning begins with the sound of waves, and evening ends under a starry sky.
The nearby beach has been awarded a Blue Flag: the water here is transparent, and the entrance is gentle. On weekends in season, there is a lively tent camp here. But on weekdays, you can find that very silence. The infrastructure is well developed: in addition to camping and beach amenities, there is even Wi-Fi.
This place is especially appreciated by lovers of seascapes and photographers hunting for divinely beautiful sunrises (or sunsets: it depends on the time of year). In terms of the combination of nature and convenience, Polis Chrysochous is one of the most comfortable camps on the coast. The campsite is currently undergoing modernization.
Price: charged per person — 5 euros/3 euros per child; per tent — 7 euros. You also need to pay extra for electricity and parking.

Stavros tis Psokas: forest silence
The Stavros tis Psokas location is hidden in the Paphos Forest at an altitude of about 900 m. There are no crowds or noisy venues here: only dense trees, coolness, and the feeling that civilization has been left somewhere in the distant past. The aroma of pine and greenery delights guests all year round, and in summer you can hide here from the annoying heat.
The camping area here is small, but atmospheric. You can stay for several days or simply have a little picnic. Nearby there is a mouflon breeding station, and you can go and look at these rare animals (sometimes they appear among the shrubs). This kind of “remote” destination is chosen by those who come to Cyprus for authentic nature unknown to ordinary tourists.
Price: 2 euros for a small tent, 3 euros for a large tent per day.

Camping at Governor's Beach (White Rocks)
Kalymnos Beach in the Governors location (Governor's Beach) is a magnificent spot for photo shoots, a break from civilization, and extended “wild” stays. It is known for its limestone rocks and contrasting dark sand. This is a very large area that includes all the infrastructure necessary for living outdoors: shops within walking distance, showers, cooking areas, and even zones for children.
Thanks to this, the place is often chosen by families and beginner travelers who want to try the outdoor lifestyle but without extreme conditions. It operates year-round, although in winter, of course, sometimes you want to shelter from the piercing wind from the sea.
Price: charged per person — 3 euros/day; per tent — 4 euros.

Rules of conduct and safety
In Cyprus, tents may be set up only at officially designated points. Unauthorized camping is considered a violation of the law and may result in a serious fine or even legal proceedings. The reason for the strict measures is simple: protection of flora and fauna and prevention of fires.
Reference! Dry Cyprus is highly fire-prone in summer. One spark may be enough to cause a large-scale disaster. That is why fire is not something to joke with here.
In nature reserves (Troodos, Akamas), you may not pick plants or berries, and in some campsites, because they belong to a national park, animals are not allowed. It is probably worth mentioning that littering is forbidden: all bags, leftovers, and everything else must be taken with you.

Cyprus opens up in a completely different way if you look at it not from a hotel balcony, but from the entrance of a tent. The mountains give coolness and the scent of pine, the coast gives salty wind, and the forests give a silence that is impossible to find in the city. A few nights under the open sky turn a holiday into a real little expedition, so it is worth trying! Maybe as soon as next weekend?
