Easter Travel in Cyprus: Where to Go During the Holidays

In Cyprus, the Easter holidays last longer: usually from Holy Thursday to Bright Monday, which means five days. Throughout this period, institutions remain closed, people relax, preparations for the holiday take place, and the celebrations themselves unfold.

Note! In 2026, Easter falls on April 12.

It would be a shame not to take advantage of this moment and treat yourself to a mini holiday on the island, when the weather is perfect and everything around is in bloom. Where can you go for 1–5 days to enjoy new experiences and recharge?

What Will the Weather Be Like?

Before setting off, it is worth checking the weather. Spoiler: April in Cyprus is usually sunny, dry, warm, and not yet hot. The off-season on the island is considered the most comfortable time for outdoor recreation. Even a light rain will not spoil the trip.

During the day, in the sunshine, the air temperature will be around +20 degrees. The bravest may even swim in the sea, since the water temperature is not very different: +18–19 degrees. Still, it is better to postpone swimming for later and focus on walks and trips.

Agrotourism: Easter in the Villages of Cyprus

What better place than a village to see traditional Easter celebrations with your own eyes? Here, people come out into the streets as a whole community, celebrate, have fun, and warmly welcome guests and tourists.

The most famous and authentic villages of Cyprus:

  1. Omodos — famous for its arkatena bread, beautiful scenery, luxury mini-hotels, and taverns serving traditional food;
  2. Lefkara — the “capital” of silver jewelry craftsmen and the famous Lefkara embroidery;
  3. Platres (and neighboring Troodos), high in the mountains, is the best place to breathe in pine-scented air and wander along cozy forest trails with amazing views;
  4. Zygi — a fishing village where, besides enjoying the peace and quiet, you can feast on fresh seafood to your heart’s content;
  5. Pedoulas — a very beautiful mountain village with stone-paved streets and an old church;
  6. Kalavasos — an ancient village whose history dates back to the Neolithic era, and it is also very green, as the residents love plants in pots outside their homes;
  7. Kato Drys — a small but highly traditional Cypriot village with only 130 residents; in essence, it is a real museum of old Cypriot culture and everyday life;
  8. Foini (Phini) — this one is already a true museum made out of a village: no one lives here now, but people come on excursions.

Agrotourism means leisurely walks through villages and their surroundings, visits to museums of traditional life, wineries, shops with local products, and tastings of traditional dishes. Here you can enjoy two menus at once: fasting and festive. Until Sunday, taverns will mostly serve fasting dishes, while on Sunday and Monday you can properly enjoy meat and other “forbidden” treats.

Tip! Agros is not on the list for a reason — the Rose Festival will take place there on the weekend after Easter. So it makes sense to go there about a week later.

Celebrating in Historic Monasteries

Religious people, or those interested in the spiritual traditions of Cyprus, should spend the Easter holiday in a church. Ideally, it should be an old one, possibly a mountain monastery, so that the trip combines nature and a holy place.

Which churches and monasteries are worth visiting in 2026:

  1. Kykkos. A large and famous monastery that holds festive services and a parade (not a religious procession). It is located in a picturesque place and has a museum and a shop on its grounds where you can buy local wine, sweets, and icons.
  2. St Nicholas Monastery, also known as the Cats’ Monastery. You can come here for a service and more: the cats will be happy to receive guests and treats from them.
  3. St Minas Monastery in Vavla. A quiet place for those who do not want to be in a large crowd. It is known for its authenticity, age, honey, and preserves.
  4. St Thekla Monastery in Mosfiloti. Here you can enjoy healing mud and holy water, and also buy delicious trahanas, the base ingredient for the traditional Cypriot soup of the same name.
  5. Trooditissa. A large old monastery located just 6 km from Platres, which means you can combine agrotourism with pilgrimage. Its main relic is a belt believed to cure women of infertility.

You can go to any church to take part in the parade and services. All you need is the right intention and a bright feeling in your heart.

Tip! Cypriot Orthodoxy is more relaxed when it comes to requirements for churchgoers. Women may wear trousers and no head covering, and it is also acceptable to sit during the service.

A Walk Along the Central Streets of the Cities

If you live, for example, in Limassol, you can simply change the scenery and go to a neighboring city: Paphos, Larnaca, or Nicosia. From Good Friday onward, parades are held, street events with performances by local artists take place, and at Easter midnight there are not only vigils — people set off fireworks, celebrate, and hold a real feast. During these days, you can buy souvenirs, items for Easter preparations, and blessed Easter cakes.

For children, workshops and free games may be held in squares or parks, while adults should enjoy the end of the fast: drink wine and eat a good piece of meat in a seaside tavern. Bright Monday is usually spent with family by Cypriots, but this is not a strict rule. If the weather is good, you can put together a great walking or cycling route and celebrate the end of the holiday in a sporty way.

A Picnic by the Reservoir

Going on a picnic is a favorite pastime of locals during the off-season. What is a Cypriot reservoir like? It is a beautiful location with clean water, stunning views full of greenery and carpets of flowers, a tasty snack, and the chance to feel free from everyday worries.

People usually head to a reservoir in the morning and return in the evening, since there are no designated camping areas there. That is why the choice usually falls on reservoirs closest to the city:

  1. Larnaca: Kiti Dam, Oroklini Lake, Salt Lake.
  2. Limassol: Germasogeia Dam, Polemidia Reservoir, Kouris Dam, Limassol Salt Lake.
  3. Paphos: Asprokremmos, Mavrokolympos.
  4. Nicosia (nearby): Tamassos, Klirou.

You can also head to more remote reservoirs. It will take more time, and you will most likely have to drive along winding mountain roads. But in return, travelers will get silence, peace, and a sense of seclusion against the backdrop of Cyprus’s beautiful nature.

The long Easter weekend is the kind of occasion that seems to shout: “Don’t stay at home! Celebrate the arrival of warmth and spring!” It sounds reasonable, so it is worth listening to.
