Large-scale smart electricity meter installation works will continue across Cyprus throughout June. This was announced by the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC), which is implementing one of the country’s largest energy infrastructure modernization projects.
The project covers all major regions of the island and forms part of a long-term strategy to digitize the electricity grid. The new devices are gradually replacing old mechanical meters that have been in use in many areas for several decades. Authorities expect that the introduction of an intelligent metering system will improve the efficiency of electricity supply, enhance monitoring of power consumption, and speed up customer service.
Benefits for Residents
Smart meters automatically transmit electricity consumption data without the need for visits from meter readers. This allows for more accurate readings and faster identification of technical faults within the network.
In addition, the new system will become an important component of Cyprus’s energy modernization efforts. In the future, it will facilitate the integration of a larger number of solar power installations, which are increasingly being adopted by both homeowners and businesses. For an island where the share of renewable energy continues to grow every year, the implementation of modern metering systems is considered one of the key steps toward building a more sustainable energy network.

Where Meters Will Be Replaced in Nicosia This June
In the Nicosia region, new meters will be installed during June in the Strovolos Industrial Area, as well as in residential neighborhoods west of the GSP Stadium up to Alexandroupoleos Street. Works are being carried out on both sides of Iosif Hadjiosif Avenue, from the Strovolos Industrial Area to Athalassa Avenue. Equipment replacement is also taking place along Stavrou and Athinon Avenues, in the areas between Stavrou, Iosif Hadjiosif, and Athalassas Avenues, as well as in the community of Lithrodontas.
Limassol, Larnaca, and Livadia Included in the Program
In Limassol, smart meter installations are being carried out in the area between the Limassol–Nicosia motorway and Amathus and Vasileos Georgiou I Avenues, extending to the Christaki Kranou Street area.
In Larnaca, works cover the area between Griva Digeni, Artemidos, Faneromeni, and Thessalonikis Avenues, as well as the municipality of Livadia. In Livadia, equipment replacement is taking place in the central part of the community between Alexandros Panagoulis and Kyriakos Matsis Avenues, along Grigoris Afxentiou Avenue, Archbishop Makarios III Avenue, and in the northeastern section of the area up to Stadiou Street.
Several Areas of Paralimni to Be Covered
In the free areas of Famagusta District, the program is being implemented in Paralimni. New meters are being installed along Sotiras, Agiou Nektariou, and Asklipiou Streets, as well as on both sides of 1st April Avenue from the roundabout near Stadiou Street to Agiou Spyridonos Street.
Additional works are being carried out along Agiou Spyridonos, Syngklitikis, Agias Marinas, and Stadiou Streets. Equipment replacement will also affect Yorki Papadopoulou, Korai, and Eleftherias Streets near the roundabout on the road to Deryneia.
Power Outages Will Not Exceed 20 Minutes
The EAC emphasized that temporary power interruptions will be required to safely replace the equipment. However, the duration of the outage is not expected to exceed 20 minutes. The company apologized for any inconvenience and urged residents to show understanding, as the works form part of the ongoing modernization of the country’s energy system.
According to specialists, the widespread rollout of smart meters will help Cyprus move closer to the standards of modern European electricity networks, improve energy efficiency, and create a foundation for the further development of green energy on the island.
