Larnaca continues to confidently transform its residential areas, focusing on comfort, sustainability, and a modern urban environment. On Tuesday, April 21, the city celebrated the official opening of the new multifunctional Tsiaikkilero Park—a €2.5 million project already being described as the largest infrastructure investment in the region in recent decades. The project was implemented as part of the European THALIA 2021–2027 program. The park is designed as a versatile space combining leisure, sports, culture, and ecological solutions. The event was attended by Cyprus Minister of Interior Konstantinos Ioannou, Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras, as well as numerous representatives of local authorities, institutions, and a large number of residents.
A space that brings people together
Tsiaikkilero Park spans several hectares and offers Larnaca residents a completely new format for leisure. It successfully combines areas for active recreation with spaces for relaxation. Modern playgrounds and sports facilities create opportunities for outdoor activities, while the open-air amphitheater turns the park into a cultural hub for the area—from concerts to local festivals.
Special attention has been given to landscaping. Newly planted trees and shrubs create natural shade, which is especially important in Cyprus’s climate, while a well-designed network of pedestrian and cycling paths integrates the park into the city’s overall infrastructure. This is not just a green zone, but a fully developed public space embedded in everyday urban life.
Inclusivity and safety at the forefront
One of the key features of the new park is its full compliance with inclusivity principles. The space has been designed to be accessible to everyone— including people with disabilities, families with children, and elderly residents. A barrier-free environment, convenient entrances, adapted play areas, and modern sanitary facilities make the park truly open to all.
Engineering solutions also meet the latest standards. The project included the modernization of underground utilities, improving the reliability of the entire infrastructure. Drainage systems were designed with seasonal rainfall in mind, reducing the risk of flooding, while next-generation lighting ensures safety and energy efficiency in the evening.

Why it matters for the city
At the opening ceremony, Mayor Andreas Vyras emphasized that Larnaca’s development is no longer focused solely on tourist zones. According to him, the city is прежде всего about its neighborhoods and residents, and projects like this directly improve quality of life. Tsiaikkilero Park has become a symbol of a new approach to urban planning, where priority is given to people and their everyday needs.
Experts note that such initiatives help reduce the gap between central and residential areas, creating equal conditions for all citizens. Urban planner Costas Nicolaou described the project as an example of how modern cities can effectively use space, turning it into a valuable public resource.
Looking ahead: green development continues
The opening of Tsiaikkilero Park is just part of Larnaca’s broader development strategy. In the coming years, the city will continue expanding its network of public spaces. As early as 2026, the modernization of Pattichio Park is expected to be completed, becoming another major element of the city’s so-called “green ring.”
With growing interest in sustainable living and high-quality urban environments, such projects are becoming not just a trend, but a necessity. Larnaca demonstrates how infrastructure development, environmental care, and attention to residents’ needs can be harmoniously combined—shaping the city of the future today.
