Latchi Port is in for a big change

A meeting was held recently between the Mayor of Polis, Chrysochous Iotis Papachristofis, and the Minister of Transport, Alexis Vafeadis.

After the meeting, Vafeadis said that the port of Latchi would be expanded and modernised. 50 million euros will be allocated for this purpose.

The project aims to improve the sea and land infrastructure of the port, which serves as an important gateway to the Akamas peninsula and a departure point for pleasure boats and coastal cruises. The capacity of the port is expected to triple.

According to the release, the Latchi port renovation plan includes: the creation of new berths and floating docks, parking for cruise ships on the outside of the breakwaters, the establishment of a boat service area, petrol stations, the opening of restaurants, entertainment facilities and offices for customs, port police and the fisheries department.

According to Vafeadis, the tender process will be completed by February 2026. The first phase of the project will run until February 2028. The facility is expected to be fully operational by August 2028.

Порт Лачи ждут большие изменения

Previously, a multi-purpose seaside park was inaugurated in Latchi, which includes a children's playground, a sports simulator zone, a football pitch, a recreational area with green spaces and a spacious car park with modern street lighting.

In addition, the modernisation of the Latchi port warehouses is expected to be completed in the near future. In the past, Latchi port was used to export the 'black gold of Cyprus' - the fruit of the carob tree. As a result, there are several warehouses in the resort area where carob fruit was once stored. The warehouses are very important to the people of Latchi as they preserve the history of the area. Many have been converted into cafes and restaurants over the years, but some are still empty.

This project is funded by the European Maritime Fund. A total of €2.7 million has been allocated to improve the popular tourist destination.

It is worth noting that all these developments are part of a larger project to modernise the whole region. The ultimate aim is to focus on the development of infrastructure that will unite the three main regions of Latchi, Polis and Prodromi.
