The Cyprus Ports Authority has announced a tender for the lease and commercial operation of real estate properties at Limassol Old Port. The total estimated value of the tender is €4.88 million. Potential tenants may submit applications for individual premises, as well as for parts or sections of them. The deadline for submitting proposals is May 8, 2026, on which day all applications will be opened and forwarded to the evaluation committee.
The winning bidder will be able to sign a 6-year contract starting from July 1, 2026. In total, seven food and beverage outlets are being offered: three restaurants, one traditional tavern, two snack bars, and one bar.
Historical background: from cargo port to leisure destination
Limassol Old Port, located in the heart of the city’s seafront, has long transformed from its original maritime function into a multifunctional leisure and commercial space. Built in the 1950s during British colonial rule, the port initially handled both cargo and passenger traffic alongside the port of Famagusta for around two decades.
However, after the construction of the new Limassol port in 1973, the importance of the old port gradually declined. By 1979, it had completely ceased maritime operations, remaining only as a docking area for fishing boats and leisure yachts. For many years, the area awaited redevelopment.
2014 reconstruction: a new chapter
A new chapter in the history of Limassol Old Port began in 2010 with a large-scale reconstruction project costing €17 million, completed in 2014. The transformation resulted in the construction of 20 modern buildings with a total area of 5,800 m², harmoniously combining traditional Cypriot character with cultural and commercial infrastructure.
The upgraded area includes not only dining venues but also shops, a fish market, a club, offices of the Department of Fisheries and Marine Research, and a 7-story office building covering approximately 1,500 m². The project also featured a pedestrian bridge, landscaped open spaces with squares and fountains, greenery, walking paths, cycling lanes, and parking facilities.

Today: a gem of Limassol
Today, Limassol Old Port is rightly considered one of the city’s gems. It has become a major attraction for both locals and tourists. The central square and multifunctional hall host charity, cultural, social, musical, and sports events throughout the year. Its proximity to Limassol’s medieval castle and modern marina further enhances the area’s appeal.
Practical information for potential tenants
Given the high foot traffic and popularity of the location, this tender presents an excellent opportunity for restaurateurs and hospitality entrepreneurs to establish a presence in one of Cyprus’s most attractive tourist areas. The new phase of development is expected to boost commercial activity and make the Old Port even more appealing to visitors.
