The authorities of Cyprus plan to begin work on the modernization of the historic Pervolia lighthouse at the beginning of 2027. The project includes the restoration of the building and the improvement of the surrounding area with the aim of creating a modern Sea Information Center with an educational, research, and cultural focus.
The mayor of the Dromolaxia–Meneou municipality, Kypros Andronikou, noted that all necessary studies have been completed, but the project was delayed for a long time due to complex bureaucratic procedures and the involvement of many government services. Its implementation requires the issuance of a building permit, since the site is classified as a “government project.” The authorities hope that the permit will be issued by autumn, after which construction will begin.

Historical value of the lighthouse
The Pervolia lighthouse was built in 1860, with the lighthouse keeper’s house added in 1891 and a complete reconstruction in 1901. The building is located at the beginning of the coastal promenade and is a valuable cultural monument of Cyprus. Unfortunately, today the building is deteriorating: plaster is crumbling on the walls, and the surrounding area looks neglected, with dried trees and sparse plants. The lighthouse creates a depressing impression on local residents and tourists.
Prospects for tourists and residents
The implementation of the project will make it possible to turn the historic lighthouse into a modern and frequently visited site that will become an important point on the tourist map of Larnaca. The modernization will improve the infrastructure of the coastal zone, increase the attractiveness of the Pervolia promenade for walks and educational programs, and preserve the unique heritage of Cyprus for future generations.
