The grand opening of the renovated Era Apollon located at the intersection of Tsiriou Street and Archbishop Makarios Avenue took place in Limassol.
The department store has now not only a new interior, but also a new assortment of products, exclusive brands, fashion, accessories and household items.
The following brands are represented in the most popular store in the city: Emporio Armani, Trussardi, Calvin Klein, Ted Baker, AllSaints, Scotch & Soda, Ba&sh, Hoss Intropia, EA7, DKNY Sports, Lacoste, GANT, Tommy Jeans, CK Jeans, Diesel, G Star Raw, Coach, Furla, Next Kids, Tommy Hilfiger Kids, Calvin Klein Kids, Levi's Kids, Nike Kids, Adidas Originals kids, Coin Casa and Next Home.
Meanwhile, the other Era department store (formerly Debenhams Olympia), which is located on October 28 Street, is going to be closed at the end of December.
Almost all the goods were taken out of the store. Today it looks more like a flea market than an elite shopping center.
In mid-2020 Ermes Department Stores Plc together with Cyprus Trading Corporation Plc and Woolworth (Cyprus) Properties Plc sold two big stores in Limassol and Nicosia, to the Bank of Cyprus and Hellenic Bank.
An Ermes representative said that the agreement is part of a program to reduce the share of borrowed funds. Thus, the company reduced its debts accumulated as a result of the financial crisis of 2013 by 119 million euros.
Now many are interested in the future of the building, which has become a symbol of the Limassol embankment. As it turned out, it would soon be demolished.
The demolition process of the popular ERA shopping center will last approximately 3-4 months.
Then, a 45-storey Aura high-rise will be erected on this plot.
The CTC Group has already received all the necessary licenses and is ready to start implementing its new project.
It is worth noting that initially the height of the building was supposed to reach 196.6 m, but at the request of the urban planning department, its height was reduced to 178 m. However, these amendments will not prevent Aura from becoming the tallest skyscraper in the city.
Today the tallest building under construction in Limassol is the 37-story One, which is being built by Pafilia.
According to the project, the building will stand on 24-meter columns (the height of a six-story building), which are needed in order to provide residents of adjacent buildings with sunlight and sea views. In total, the high-rise will have 43 floors, of which 37 levels will be residential, and the remaining six will be technical. Four apartments will be located on each residential floor, the total living area will be 26 thousand m2.
The construction period of the new high-rise will be about three years. A park, a public space will be created on the territory under the building, restaurants, cafes and shops will open, as well as an underground four-level parking.
It should be mentioned that one of the main problems of the project was that it would be built on a plot with groundwaters, which over the past 30 years have been heavily polluted due to other development projects.
So eco-activists expressed concerns about the fact that polluted groundwater regularly enters the sea. However, government environmental organizations have come to the conclusion that no natural balance will be disturbed if the water from the construction site is first collected in tanks, then cleaned and only then discharged into the sea.

Would be interesting to know. But it would be a bonus, if Olympia remains. Truly wonderful building.
