The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous announced the implementation of projects in the region with a total value of 595,150 euros. Funding is provided under a grant program of the Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Tourism aimed at the revitalization of rural, mountainous, border, and remote areas of the island. The initiative is focused on developing sustainable tourism, supporting the local economy, and improving the quality of life of permanent residents.
As emphasized by the municipality, the key idea of the program is to create authentic experiences for visitors while simultaneously preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the region. The projects were designed to highlight the unique identity of each settlement and make the area attractive not only during the high season but throughout the year.
Polis Chrysochous and coastal communities
In Polis Chrysochous itself, projects worth 86.5 thousand euros are being implemented. The funds were allocated to the improvement of a park, where a wooden fence was installed, as well as new urban furniture, including benches, waste bins, and recreation areas. Investments in the renovation of the village of Agia Marina Chrysochous amounted to 47,430 euros and were directed toward decorative enhancement of public spaces, installation of mosaic panels, and the creation of viewing points for visitors.
In Gialia, projects totaling 42.1 thousand euros include artistic elements, landscaping, installation of an automatic irrigation system, and new street lighting, significantly refreshing the appearance of the community. In Nea Dimmata, the volume of investments reached 53,320 euros, where in addition to landscaping and greening, playgrounds were upgraded, existing facilities renovated, and tourist navigation improved.
Digital solutions and accessible environment
Special attention under the program was given to Neo Chorio, where 55,830 euros were allocated for projects. Digital solutions for tourists were introduced here, including a mobile application and a website, new informational elements were installed, and infrastructure for people with disabilities was created. In Pomos, investments of 72,617 euros were directed toward landscaping and greening, enhancing the village’s appeal for domestic and international tourism.
In Argaka, projects worth 45 thousand euros focused on landscape works and the restoration of traditional stone elements. In Drousia, initiatives totaling 32,420 euros were implemented for navigation, digital mapping, and improvement of public spaces, making the village more understandable and engaging for visitors.

Preservation of traditions and local identity
In Terra, investments amounted to 30,970 euros and were directed toward the renovation of fountains, installation of welcome signs, and landscaping. In Kritou Terra, works worth 20,140 euros were carried out for the improvement and restoration of water features, while in Chrysochou, 45,040 euros were invested in extensive planting of greenery and the purchase of irrigation equipment. Pelathousa received 37,556 euros, which were used for landscape design and the renewal of public areas.
Year-round tourism
The Municipality of Polis Chrysochous thanked the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for its support and noted that such investments are especially relevant amid growing interest in alternative and eco-friendly tourism in Cyprus. The authorities emphasize that developing infrastructure outside major resorts helps relieve pressure on popular destinations, stimulates small businesses, and makes the region attractive for living and travel at any time of the year.
Incidentally, Cyprus is consistently focusing on the decentralization of tourism, and projects in Polis Chrysochous are viewed as an example of how relatively small but targeted investments can deliver long-term benefits for the region’s economy and image.
