On Wednesday 22 January, the Deputy Mayor of Oroklini, Neophytos Fakontis, announced that more than €12 million will be invested in the development of the Larnaca-area village in the near future.
These funds will be used to transform the main infrastructure of the large village.
In particular, there will be a new outdoor amphitheatre and an innovative sports centre. Fakontis explained that the merger of Oroklini with Larnaca Municipality, as part of the local government reforms, made it possible to obtain EU funding for the implementation of these projects. There are now no obstacles to the modernisation of the village.
The plan includes the reconstruction of the central part of Oroklini, the construction of a new 1,000-seat open-air amphitheatre and a multifunctional sports centre that will meet the needs of the local community," Fakontis said, adding that the total cost of these projects is expected to exceed €12 million.
He also mentioned the imminent completion of the third phase of the Larnaca-Dekelia road upgrade, which has been underway for about 18 months. The cost of the project is estimated at more than €20 million, including VAT. It is expected to be completed in March 2025.
The section from the Oroklini Police Station to the Lebay Hotel includes four lanes, access roads, roundabouts, pedestrian and cycle paths, parking and green areas," said Fakontis.
The construction of new breakwaters in the coastal district of Oroklini is also well under way. The last, the seventh, should be completed by the beginning of March this year. A similar initiative in Pervolia, part of the same Ministry of Transport programme, required higher costs due to the more serious erosion problems in the area.
This €4 million project aims to protect the coastline by creating new beaches and reducing the risk of erosion," explains Fakontis.
Finally, in Oroklini, the final phase of preparation for the new seafront project, estimated to cost €4 million, has begun.
The building permit is almost ready and tenders will be launched soon,' said Fakontis.
It is worth mentioning that as part of the efforts to green the village, 1,000 trees have been planted by 2024, 730 of which are along the seafront. Another 2,000 trees will be planted in March with the support of the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company.
