In a suburb of Larnaca, in the municipality of Aradippou, preparations are underway for the construction of a new solar power plant worth more than €4 million. The official announcement was made by the local municipality on Friday, May 8. A tender for the construction of the facility has already been launched, and the building works are expected to take 18 months. This is an important development for the entire region, as Cyprus continues to move steadily toward its national environmental goals.
Figures and Financing
The new solar farm will generate 3.61 MW of energy. The total cost of the project is estimated at €4.25 million. Importantly, the full amount will be financed from the municipality’s own budget. According to local authorities, this decision demonstrates a strong political commitment to investing in projects that deliver long-term benefits for both the environment and society.
This will not be the municipality’s first renewable energy project. The new installation will complement Aradippou’s existing network of renewable energy sources. The municipality has already launched a major solar farm and introduced zero-emission transport as part of the European Ecorouts program. As such, the new facility will naturally continue the municipality’s established sustainable development strategy.

Project Goals: Energy Independence and Environmental Benefits for Cyprus
The main goal is to further strengthen the municipality’s energy independence. According to Mayor Christodoulos Partou, the construction of the solar power plant is another important step toward Aradippou’s energy autonomy and sustainable development. In addition, the project will make a significant contribution to Cyprus’s nationwide environmental objectives and green transition.
Partou emphasized that local authorities have a direct responsibility to invest in projects that protect the environment, reduce electricity costs, and create a more modern and sustainable future. He added that the Aradippou administration is proving in practice that the green transition is not merely a plan on paper, but a consistent political choice based on vision and commitment.
For residents of the Larnaca suburb, this means not only cleaner air but also real financial savings. Reduced dependence on traditional energy sources will gradually lead to lower utility bills. In addition, projects of this kind enhance the area’s investment appeal and create new jobs during the construction phase, which, as noted, will last for one and a half years.
