New Modern Football Stadium Planned in Limassol

The Municipality of Limassol has completed the submission period for appointing design consultants who will prepare the redevelopment plans for the football stadium on Versailles Street and provide technical supervision during the works.

According to the project, the existing sports infrastructure could be completely redesigned. The current facilities are expected to be replaced with a modern football pitch featuring artificial turf that meets the technical requirements for amateur matches and training sessions.

The project also provides for:

  1. changing rooms for players and referees;
  2. a medical room;
  3. storage and technical rooms;
  4. electromechanical rooms;
  5. public toilets;
  6. a snack bar;
  7. new stands for approximately 500–600 spectators;
  8. site lighting;
  9. fencing and security systems;
  10. a rainwater drainage system;
  11. landscaping of the surrounding area.

Particular attention will be given to accessibility for people with disabilities, including safe access to the stands and the necessary supporting infrastructure.

How much the redevelopment will cost

The preliminary construction cost is estimated at €2.5 million excluding VAT. Of this, €160,000 excluding VAT represents the cost of design and technical supervision services. The source of funding for the actual construction works has not yet been announced. The final cost may also change once the design stage is completed and a separate construction tender is launched.

When construction will begin

The submission period for design proposals has already ended. The next stage is the evaluation of applications and selection of the company that will prepare the project documentation and provide supervision. Once the design is completed, the municipality will have to launch a separate procedure to select the contractor that will carry out the construction works.

No date has yet been announced for the start of the renovation or the opening of the upgraded stadium. The municipality intends to restore the sports facility to full use and make it suitable for training and competitions for children, teenagers and adults. At this stage, the planned capacity of 500–600 spectators remains an indicative figure. The final specifications of the stadium will be known once the design process is completed.

Who the new stadium is intended for

The main aim of the project is to bring the existing municipal sports facility back into full operation and create modern conditions for amateur football. The municipality expects the upgraded stadium to be used for matches and training sessions, while also being suitable for children, teenagers and adults. New changing rooms, lighting, security systems and spectator stands should make the venue more functional for organised sporting events.

The stadium redevelopment is part of the Municipality of Limassol’s broader efforts to modernise sports infrastructure and create additional spaces for sport and recreation.
