The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) has announced the launch of the second phase of its energy-saving support program. As part of the scheme, the authority will issue each household vouchers worth 20 euros for the purchase of energy-efficient LED light bulbs. The initiative is aimed at reducing electricity consumption and lowering carbon emissions.
It should be recalled that initially this program was aimed only at vulnerable categories of consumers with the social tariff “08”, but already in 2025–2026 it became available to all households in Cyprus. Vouchers worth 20 euros can be exchanged for selected LED bulbs in EAC partner stores across Cyprus, making participation simple and accessible for all homeowners. The vouchers are valid until the end of 2026, and cannot be exchanged for cash.
New opportunities for every home
EAC is working to accelerate the transition of households from old energy-consuming incandescent bulbs to modern LED lighting. These bulbs consume significantly less electricity and last much longer, allowing for a substantial reduction in monthly electricity bills and carbon footprint. Information on the vouchers is also printed in Braille, making the program accessible to people with partial visual impairment.
This step aligns with the broader energy efficiency strategy implemented by EAC together with the Cyprus Energy Office. As part of this strategy, the “EAC+” grant program is also in operation with a total budget of 5.5 million euros, where a significant portion of funds is directed toward replacing lighting and air conditioning systems with more energy-efficient models.

Why this matters in 2026
Improving energy efficiency remains a key direction of Cyprus’s energy policy amid rising tariffs and pressure on household budgets. The government has also recently extended relief measures such as reduced VAT on household electricity to ease the financial burden on families until the end of March 2027. This demonstrates a comprehensive approach to supporting the population both in reducing energy consumption and lowering costs.
The transition to LED lighting is not just a way to save money: it is a step toward a sustainable lifestyle, reducing the carbon footprint, and supporting the Republic’s environmental agenda on the path to European climate goals. EAC emphasizes that simple measures such as replacing light bulbs can lead to a noticeable reduction in energy consumption across the country, especially if tens of thousands of households take advantage of them.
