The Cypriot Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism has announced a postponement of the application deadline for the Home Energy Modernisation Project.
Interested parties have been given the opportunity to participate in the programme until 31 March 2025.
The authority said that since the start of the programme in November 2024, 760 people have expressed their desire to receive state support, the total amount of which reached 14 million euros. Recall that the subsidies are issued on the basis of Cyprus' commitment to switch to clean energy under the Paris Agreement, which regulates measures to reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere from 2020. By 2030, Cyprus should reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40 per cent and improve energy efficiency by at least 32.5 per cent. In an effort to meet these targets, the authorities have developed a plan to modernise Cypriot homes to make them more energy efficient. The first phase of the programme will end in 2021 and the second in 2023. The Ministry has granted subsidies to more than 4,000 Cypriot families.
The subsidies are based on the purchase and installation of new equipment and materials for properties that meet certain criteria (e.g. have an Energy Performance Certificate with a minimum rating of B). In addition, the costs of expert opinions, insulation of vertical and horizontal surfaces, and the installation of new windows and doors, shading systems, water heating, air conditioning, etc. are taken into account when considering applications. Under the terms of the programme, the grant covers 60% of the costs (80% for vulnerable groups). At the same time, the maximum amount of subsidy that can be granted to each beneficiary is determined according to the type of property:
- Category A: The maximum subsidy is 32,000 euros. This includes residential buildings that will be transformed into near-zero energy buildings, achieving energy savings of at least 60%.
- Category B: Maximum grant of 24 thousand euros. Includes properties that will be renovated to achieve energy savings of at least 60%.
- Category C: The maximum grant is 7,775 euros. The money will be used to modernise the heating/cooling systems of homes that have an Energy Performance Certificate of Class B or higher.
It should be noted that before applying, interested parties must, among other things, obtain an energy performance certificate for their house or apartment issued by qualified experts registered in the relevant Energy Service Register.
The budget for the third phase of the Energy Saving - Modernisation of Houses Programme is EUR 30 million. More detailed information is available on the website meci.gov.cy or by dialling 17107.
