Cyprus is launching a new program called Home Energy Drive, which should improve the energy efficiency of local residents' homes.
The new government support plan complies with the Paris Agreement, which requires countries to switch to clean energy, which regulates measures to reduce the carbon dioxide content in the atmosphere fr om 2020.
As you may know Cyprus should reduce house gas emissions by at least 40% by 2030 year, increasing energy efficiency by at least 32.5%. Therefore, the country's authorities have developed a plan to modernize Cypriot houses in an effort to achieve these goals.
Cyprus Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry Natasha Pilides said that Cyprus intends to provide subsidies (EUR 30 million in 2021) for those who wish to participate in the new program. Another 70 million euros will be allocated until 2027.
At the first stage, EUR 30 million is allocated for the purchase and installation of materials and equipment to improve the home energy efficiency. The plan also includes coverage for consulting costs, house insulation, window replacement, and shading systems.
In addition, an additional EUR 7-8 million per year will be provided in the form of grants to people who wish to upgrade their energy infrastructure, for example, install photovoltaic cells, storage batteries, replace technical systems.
'We have seen renovation and modernization in Cyprus as part of the move towards ecology. Accordingly, we will do our best to speed up the processing of applications', - noted Pilides.
The new plan aims to help resident homeowners in Cyprus looking to make their homes more energy efficient.
Apartment owners can also take part in Home Energy Drive. However, for this they need to collect signatures and submit one application from all owners of the building wh ere their property is located.
It should be noted that the owners of private and apartment buildings are able to apply for a grant from the state only once.
It is planned that applications for participation in the Home Energy Drive will be accepted online. Currently, a special platform, on which applicants will be able to get all the necessary information about the new program, as well as calculate the amount of the subsidy they can count on, is being developed.
According to the release, the EU grant covers 60% of the total project amount, while applicants will be able to receive about 80% from the state in the form of support for the improvement of their real estate.
Among other things, the applicant's home must meet the following criteria to participate in the program:
- An application for a building permit must be submitted by December 21, 2007.
- The property must be located in the Republic of Cyprus. The new plan does not apply to homes located on British bases.
- The energy efficiency category of the house must be “C” or lower, in accordance with the labeling system established by EU Directive 92/75 / EC.
- The applicant must not be a recipient of the Plan "Energy Saving - Modernization of Homes" FP 2014-2020 grant the Renewable Energy and Energy Saving Fund grant.
