Responding to the MPs' reports, the president of DISY, Averof Neophytou, wondered if some people think that the state can cover the rents. Referring to DIKO, he noted that they should decide how they view the issue, pointing out that although there was an impression that the owners were wealthy and the tenants were low, today, a shopkeeper whom rents can make more than the owner.
AKEL parliamentary representative George Loukaidis said that the Parliament almost unanimously offers protection to tenants, while also unanimously acknowledging that this regulation is not the solution. He noted that liabilities and rents will run and will need to be paid accrued upon the expiration of protection.
EDEK MP Kostis Efstathiou, who abstained from the vote, indicated during the debate that the extension of the regulation will lead to the accumulation of debts in the form of rents and spoke of victimization of the owners.
