Cyprus is preparing for major changes in the healthcare sector. As early as summer 2026, a medical center operated by the Israeli Hadassah network — one of the most renowned and respected medical brands in the Middle East — will open in Limassol. At the same time, authorities are currently reviewing documents for a construction permit for a full-scale multidisciplinary hospital with research and educational functions in the Lakatamia area of Nicosia.
For Cyprus, this development could become a turning point not only for the healthcare system, but also for the medical tourism market, which has been actively developing on the island in recent years.
Why Hadassah’s Arrival Matters for Cyprus
Despite its high standard of living and growing private healthcare sector, Cyprus still faces a shortage of modern clinics of international standard. The island currently has no hospitals accredited by JCI, one of the world’s key standards for the quality and safety of medical services.
JCI accreditation often becomes a decisive factor for international insurance companies, foreign patients, and medical tourists when choosing a country for treatment.
Another problem is the heavy burden on the GESY system. In public hospitals, waiting times for appointments, diagnostics, and specialized care often stretch for hours or even weeks. The situation becomes especially difficult in summer, when the influx of tourists sharply increases the pressure on the medical infrastructure of Paphos, Larnaca, and the free areas of Famagusta. Against this background, Hadassah’s arrival is seen as an opportunity to close the existing gap in high-quality and technologically advanced medicine.
What the Hadassah Network Represents
The Hadassah Medical Organization was founded more than a century ago in New York and played a key role in creating Israel’s modern healthcare system. Today, it is one of the country’s largest medical complexes, with two major campuses in Jerusalem, dozens of operating rooms, specialized intensive care units, and thousands of employees.
Hadassah clinics are known for their strong expertise in oncology, cardiology, neurology, transplantation, and rehabilitation medicine. The medical center cooperates with international universities and research institutes, and actively participates in the development of innovative treatment methods. The organization has traditionally paid special attention to the principle of equal access to medical care regardless of a patient’s nationality or religion. It was this approach that once earned Hadassah a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

What Services Will Be Available in Limassol
The new Hadassah center in Limassol will serve both local residents and foreign patients. According to preliminary information, the clinic will offer modern diagnostic services, including MRI and CT scans, as well as cardiology, neurology, laboratory diagnostics, rehabilitation programs, and long-term patient support.
Its main advantage will be direct integration with the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem. Patients will be able to receive a second medical opinion from Israeli specialists, remote consultations, and, if necessary, referral for treatment in Israel with full support. In effect, this means that Cyprus will gain access to one of the strongest medical systems in the region without patients having to organize treatment abroad on their own.
The Hospital in Lakatamia Will Change the Island’s Medical Map
The second phase of the project provides for the construction of a full-scale hospital complex in the Lakatamia area of Nicosia. The new hospital is expected to include inpatient wards, operating theaters, research laboratories, and educational programs for doctors and medical staff.
The project is expected not only to improve the quality of healthcare, but also to reduce the outflow of patients abroad. At present, many residents of Cyprus have to seek complex surgeries and specialized treatment in Israel, Greece, Germany, or the United Kingdom.
Experts also predict growth in medical tourism. Thanks to its mild climate, developed infrastructure, and direct air connections, Cyprus is gradually becoming an attractive destination for patients from Europe, the Middle East, and CIS countries.
How Hadassah’s Arrival Will Affect the Cyprus Market
The arrival of an international medical network could significantly change not only the healthcare system, but also the real estate, insurance, and investment markets. Analysts have already noted increased interest in areas near the future medical facilities. This is especially true for Limassol and Nicosia, where demand for rental housing is growing among foreign specialists, doctors, and patients arriving for treatment.
In addition, the presence of international-standard clinics is becoming an important factor for foreign investors and wealthy expats considering Cyprus as a place to live or do business. Against the background of the island’s overall population growth and the increasing number of international companies, the development of modern healthcare is becoming one of the key conditions for the country’s further economic growth.
