Larnaca Launches Website to Check Dangerous Buildings

Residents of Larnaca now have access to a new digital tool for checking property safety. The Larnaca District Local Government Organisation (EOA) has launched an online service that allows users to find out in just a few clicks whether a building is included in the official register of dangerous structures.

The new service went live on Friday, 17 July, and covers the entire Larnaca district. It was created to improve public safety, keep residents informed, and increase the transparency of municipal services.

What information does the new service provide?

Buildings can be searched in several ways:

  1. by municipality or community;
  2. by building address;
  3. by cadastral details, including the survey plan and plot number.

Each property listing includes detailed information such as:

  1. the date the building was officially classified as unsafe;
  2. a brief description of the identified hazard;
  3. whether the danger affects only building occupants or also poses a risk to passers-by;
  4. recommended safety measures and precautions for residents;
  5. information on whether the building has protected cultural heritage status.

As of 16 July 2026, the database already contains up-to-date information. The register will be updated regularly following new technical inspections, as well as after identified issues have been resolved and buildings are removed from the list of dangerous structures.

Why is this important for residents and property buyers?

Cyprus regularly inspects older buildings, particularly in historic city centres where many properties were built decades ago and require major renovation. In Larnaca, such buildings are often located close to residential homes, shops, and popular tourist routes. The new public register is especially useful for:

  1. property buyers;
  2. tenants;
  3. owners of commercial premises;
  4. investors planning to purchase properties in the city's older districts.

Checking a building before buying or renting allows prospective owners and tenants to identify potential restrictions, necessary repairs, or safety risks in advance.

How is personal data protected?

The EOA emphasises that the service fully complies with personal data protection legislation. The public register does not disclose:

  1. owners' names;
  2. information about residents;
  3. any other personal information.

If users notice incorrect or outdated information, they can report it for verification. The organisation operates a 24-hour hotline at 24 501 000.

The development of digital services like this is part of Cyprus' broader strategy to modernise public services. In recent years, the authorities have gradually moved cadastral services, building permits, municipal services, and public databases online, making interactions with government agencies faster and more convenient. The new register of dangerous buildings is another step towards improving safety and increasing transparency in Cyprus' property market.
