Updated Interactive Map Launched in Limassol

Residents and property owners in Limassol no longer necessarily need to visit the offices of the District Local Government Organisation (EOA) to obtain information about a specific area. An updated WebGIS information system is now available in the city. The EOA presents it as a tool for quick access to important geographical data.

The interactive map allows users to view water supply and sewerage service boundaries, the locations of dangerous buildings, Green Points and other information. The service is accessible from both computers and mobile phones.

To find a specific property, users simply need to open WebGIS and enter an address or place name in the search bar. Once a result is selected, the map will move to the relevant area. In the “Layers” section, individual data layers can be switched on and off, while the “Legend” section explains the colours and symbols used. If cadastral details are known, the search can be refined using the “Filter” function — by municipality or community, parish, sheet, plan, section and plot number.

Dangerous buildings: dozens of properties already shown on the map

One of the service’s most useful features is the dangerous buildings map, which currently shows 57 plots containing buildings classified as dangerous. Notably, the data in this section are continuously updated.

The Limassol EOA stresses that the absence of a property from the map does not automatically mean that the building has been inspected and declared safe. If no information about a building’s condition is available, an inspection may be carried out following a report or relevant application. Likewise, the presence of a marker on the map does not necessarily mean that a building is at immediate risk of collapse: it indicates a registered case requiring attention, assessment and the actions provided for by law.

In 2026, building safety has become a particularly relevant issue. The EOA reminds the public that responsibility for the technical condition, maintenance and timely inspection of private property primarily lies with owners and, where applicable, the management committees of apartment buildings.

What is important to check before buying property

WebGIS can be particularly useful when choosing a house or plot. For example, a prospective buyer can check in advance whether the area of interest falls within water supply or sewerage service zones, where the nearest Green Points are located and whether any marked dangerous buildings are nearby.

However, the map is not an official certificate. The presence of a water supply or sewerage zone on the map does not confirm that a particular property is already connected to the network, that the connection is functioning properly, that there are no outstanding debts, or that the property automatically meets the requirements for obtaining a permit.

The same applies to cadastral and technical information. When purchasing property, planning construction or making a major investment decision, official information should be obtained from the EOA and, where necessary, an assessment from an engineer or another qualified professional. The EOA states that WebGIS is intended primarily to provide information and improve access to geographical data. The service helps users gain an initial understanding of a property, but does not replace official documents or technical inspections.

Where to obtain official information

If an official response is required after checking the map, the Limassol EOA can be contacted through the organisation’s online form. A separate contact channel is also available for issues related to illegal or dangerous buildings. The telephone number for the dangerous buildings department is 25 271584, while 25 271000 is listed by the EOA as a 24-hour emergency line. The same number, 25 271000, is also used for urgent water supply and sewerage problems.

The EOA also stresses that if there is an immediate threat to life or public safety, a map marker or online report alone is not sufficient — the responsible services must be contacted immediately. Limassol is not the only city in Cyprus developing this type of open-data service. In 2026, interactive tools for locating dangerous buildings and accessing other information also appeared in other districts. The general principle remains the same: an online map can help users quickly assess a situation, but any final legal, technical or investment decision should be based on official information.
