Trek the most beautiful routes of Troodos

Winter in Cyprus is a time when nature reveals itself in a special way: soft sunshine, fresh mountain air and the silence of snow-capped peaks.

It is in winter that the Troodos Mountains offer the best trekking routes to inspire adventure. These are not just walks - this is an opportunity to feel like a real sportsman while enjoying the beauty of the surrounding world. And when you add in the unique flora and fauna found only in Cyprus, winter walking becomes even more exciting. Ready to get going? Here are six routes that will give you an unforgettable experience.

1. Artemis Trail

Route: Circular

Length: 8.1 kilometres

Difficulty: easy

Time: ~3 hours

Let's start with the most popular trail in Troodos. It circles the summit of Olymbos, the highest mountain in Cyprus. Ancient pine trees surround the trail and the views are postcard perfect. Along the way you'll come across rare species of plants, such as the tall juniper, which only grows here. Ideal for those who wish to combine a pleasant walk with a light sporting challenge.

2. Caledonia Trail

Length: 3 kilometres

Difficulty: Medium

Time: 1.5-3 hours

This is not just a route, but a real journey along the mountainous Krios Potamos River that will take you to the famous Caledonia Waterfall. Here, at any time of the year, the coolness of the water fills the soul with peace. Along the way you may come across flowering rosemary and thyme bushes, the scent of which fills the air even in winter. Caledonia is the ideal place for those who want to combine a short walk with natural relaxation. But be prepared for a challenge: the path is rocky, with slight differences in altitude, so comfortable footwear is a must.

Winter natural treasures of Troodos

Even in winter, Troodos has a special life of its own. You might spot a Cypriot fox or see birds of prey soaring through the sky. On the paths you may come across flowering plants: delicate Christmas roses or colourful strawberries. Nature in Cyprus is full of surprises all year round.

Rules of conduct in nature

To preserve the beauty of these places for future generations, it is important to follow some simple rules:

  1. Do not leave any litter. Take what you bring with you.
  2. Don't destroy plants. Many are rare and protected.
  3. Don't make any noise. This helps to keep nature quiet and not scare the animals.
  4. Follow signs and keep track of time. Only marked trails are safe. In the evening the temperature drops dramatically and it gets darker.
  5. Respect the local culture. Especially around churches and historical sites.
