Where to Go in Cyprus in December: A List of Interesting Events

Cyprus in December is full of diverse events. The calm atmosphere of the off-season is once again brightened by concerts, exhibitions — and of course, Christmas markets!

Nicosia

Although the capital of Cyprus is far from the sea, the holiday spirit is very much present here too. Christmas events, which begin in late November, amplify the festive mood and offer residents and visitors a variety of activities.

1. Events at Eleftheria (Freedom) Square

On November 23, a Christmas tree was installed and lit on the capital’s main square. From then on, various events will take place almost daily: from live performances by local musicians and light shows to a festive market. The schedule will be updated and expanded throughout December.

December 7 — German Christmas Market, 12:00–20:00 (jazz and traditional music, German treats, beer, meetings with Santa).

2. “Maratheftiko” Wine Masterclass

Cyprus is a wine country, and one of its prides is the “Maratheftiko” grape variety. It is cultivated almost exclusively in Cyprus and used to produce red wines. The masterclass will explain the distinctive features of the variety, processing methods, and how red wines pair with different dishes. Naturally, it won’t be just theory — participants will taste wines from various producers and try accompanying snacks.

December 1, Kamara Hall, advance registration: 94 006282.

3. Christmas Alley in the Village of Peristerona

Villages do not lag behind the big cities — and in some ways even surpass them. The spirit of authentic Cypriot Christmas can be felt on the narrow streets of mountain settlements, where you can not only enjoy the holiday markets but also stroll around and breathe the fresh air. Christmas Alley offers visitors a chance to stop by Santa’s workshop, listen to a local choir, play games, and enjoy traditional sweets. Adults can also have a cup of mulled wine.

December 7, Peristerona, free entry.

4. CLAYTOPIA Ceramics Festival

A great way for creative people to spend time with family or friends — visit a ceramics festival where interesting lectures are combined with hands-on workshops. Snacks and mulled wine, a DJ set, and free workshops for kids will be available.

December 13, Tochka Studio (Nikiforou Foka 40), 10:00–18:00.

5. André Rieu “Merry Christmas” Concert

The outstanding musician, modern “King of the Waltz,” and creative heir to Strauss — André Rieu — will perform a Christmas concert in Cyprus. A major event even for those who aren’t classical music fans. His magnificent orchestra and Rieu’s artistry make the Christmas concert a must-see.

December 13, Pantheon Theatre (Diagorou 29), starts at 17:00, English subtitles provided.

6. Neverland Rock Bar Birthday

Rock music lovers should definitely stop by Neverland Rock Bar as it celebrates its 16th anniversary. Iconic hits from all eras will be accompanied by giveaways and gifts for guests. The first 150 visitors will receive an Ozzy T-shirt and a welcome drink for free!

December 20, 1 Nikiforou Foka Avenue, starts at 20:00.

7. Night Performance “Absences and Silences”

A group of artists and actors is preparing an unusual performance about a “ghost city,” when the streets fall silent and something awakens under the cover of night. The secret of what exactly will happen on the streets of the Old Town has not been revealed.

Paphos

Paphos is often called the cultural capital of Cyprus. Perhaps it’s because a large part of the city and its surroundings is protected by UNESCO? In any case, the events held here are interesting, and December has its own special atmosphere.

1. Angel Painting Workshop

A great opportunity to relax and paint your own guardian angel for the coming year. Organizers welcome everyone, even those with no drawing experience. Different techniques and materials will help each participant create a picture they truly love.

December 6, Neo’s Sports Bar (Peyia), 15:00–18:00, ticket €20, available via link

In winter, visiting Avakas is extremely difficult: water levels rise, and entry is prohibited for casual visitors. But with an organized group, you can explore this natural wonder and experience the beauty of Cyprus’s protected landscapes. The ticket price includes a guide, photos, and coffee. The route is 9.5 km long, so participants should consider their strength and fitness.

4. Pantomime “Old Mother Hubbard”

Free Areas of Famagusta

There are fewer events here compared to the big cities — but that doesn’t mean they’re less exciting! In fact, some of these are worth coming to from Limassol or Nicosia.

1. Christmas Strawberry Land – Christmas Market

Festive celebrations in the “strawberry village” of Deryneia will last for almost a month and a half! The market, featuring workshops, games, music, treats, and fun activities, will operate on weekends and holidays, with breaks on weekdays. Both children and adults will be able to enjoy themselves and have a great time.

December 6–7, December 12–14, and December 18 – January 6, Deryneia

2. Christmas Market at Ayia Napa Marina

The grand resort complex is dressing up beautifully this year and hosting various events for both children and adults. Musical performances, treats, theatrical shows, workshops, and beautiful photo spots make it worth visiting more than once.

Throughout December at Ayia Napa Marina

3. “Ice Age” Theme Parks

Educational and entertaining activities will be held in two parks — in Paralimni and Deryneia. Both children and adults will see dinosaurs, mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, and other prehistoric creatures.

All December (until January 6), entrance fee €3

4. Hiking Tour at Cape Greco

One of the most picturesque coastal areas is Cape Greco. Sea views blend with unique landscapes — and, by the way, the route has no elevation gain, so the only challenge is covering the 12 km trail with a light backpack. The route starts from Konnos Beach (one of the island’s top beaches) and leads to the Sea Caves.

December 14, meeting at 9:15, participation fee €2; registration: 99447867, 99470907
