Resimercial: how to transform office distance into comfort and whether businesses need it

Previously, offices had to be distinctly corporate and formal in order to convey success and hierarchy, and to create a strict working atmosphere and composure. But now this no longer works. People who have experienced the benefits of working from home no longer want to return to conventional offices. Now, the office competes for the employee's attention with its strongest rival — their own comfort.

This is why Resimercial design (residential + commercial) has emerged — a functional hybrid of an office and a living room. This is not just a buzzword, but a response to the demands of the new era. Resimercial design recognises that we do not cease to be human beings when we enter a business centre. Here, too, we need soft lighting, surfaces that are pleasant to the touch, and a feeling of comfort.

The physics of touch

I think we are experiencing an era of sensory deprivation. In a world where everything has gone digital, we are in dire need of real, physical sensations. That is why tactility is at the heart of understanding resimercial.

We recently completed a project for a CEO's office in Paphos, where we successfully applied Resimercial design. When we chose natural walnut panels for the walls or created a complex 3D relief, we thought first and foremost about how the brain reacts to its surroundings. True luxury today is not gilding, but the opportunity to touch the living texture of wood or stone in the middle of the working day. This is an architectural way to reduce stress without leaving the office.

Uncompromising quality of space

The Resimercial approach requires honesty. If we claim to offer the comfort of home, it must be consistent. It is wrong when luxurious interiors end where technical areas begin. In our project in Paphos, we designed a bathroom in solid natural stone. This is in line with the specified level of tactility and emphasises the uncompromising nature of the chosen style.

Why is this important for business? Because the feeling of quality cannot be selective. When every surface conveys architectural integrity, trust in the space arises. This is tactile management, which makes being in the office not exhausting, but resourceful.

Zoning through sensation

An outdated office separates people with plasterboard. Resimercial separates them with scenarios. In the CEO's office in Paphos, we used textured glass instead of solid partitions. This creates an effect of transparent privacy: you feel the presence of the team, see soft light, but are protected from visual noise.

Soft zoning works in the same way. Traditional layouts separate people with partitions. Resimercial works more subtly — through changing scenarios. A single graphite carpet with a geometric rhythm serves as the tactile foundation of the entire office, providing visual integrity. But while it acts as a visual anchor for focus and quiet in the work area, in the lounge area, complemented by soft armchairs, it becomes a backdrop for a change of mental mode. Here, at the coffee table, formality disappears. This is where spontaneous ideas are born, ideas that would not come to mind at a standard work desk.

The emotional return on design

Businesses ask about the feasibility of such investments. My answer: emotional intelligence now has its architectural embodiment. The era of faceless offices is over because they are economically inefficient — people lose their creativity and burn out faster in them.

Resimercial is an investment in cognitive resources. We are building ecosystems where energy is not wasted on resisting an uncomfortable environment. The future belongs to spaces where comfort is the foundation for productivity. After all, if you want to stay in the office five minutes longer simply because it's nice to be there, then the architecture has worked for your business.
