Healthy and strong teeth and good oral health are important links in the human digestive chain.
External aesthetics influence behaviour and attractiveness, while quality chewing of food plays an important role in the functioning of other organs. This blog gives an overview of modern dental clinics in Cyprus with high-quality care and describes the treatment of some dental diseases. It also provides some useful tips on how to prevent dental disease:
- Brushing your teeth at home at least twice a day - morning and evening - is mandatory. Using a mouthwash is recommended. Each session should last at least three minutes and the amount of toothpaste used should be the size of a pea. The stiffness of the toothbrush is selected for each individual on the recommendation of the dentist.
- If there are no contraindications, you should have your teeth hygienically cleaned in the clinic at least once every 6 months. This will not only strengthen your teeth, but also give them an attractive appearance.
- During the visit to the dentist, do not hesitate to remind him to give the patient a test for anaesthesia.
- The patient should have a blood sugar test before the implant procedure. In addition, a cardiology consultation should be attended. An ECG will likely be required. All this is done in order to admit the patient to surgery and to determine the optimal dose of anaesthetic.
Farfaras Dental Clinic, Paphos
The clinic was established in 1979 and is named after its founder, Dr Farfaras. His work was later continued by his son, using more modern technology and treatment methods. The clinic offers a wide range of services, from routine check-ups to complex dental procedures. The staff believe that there is nothing more rewarding than a patient's happy smile. The clinic offers the following types of treatment:
- Endodontic treatment. Treatment of the root canals or pulp of the tooth, which leads to the elimination of infection, neutralises the inflammatory process and protects the teeth from possible microbial invasion. A sign that you need to see an endodontist is a painful reaction of the tooth to hot (cold) food or liquid, or excessive pain in the tooth after a mechanical impact.
- Implantology. This is the current solution for replacing untreatable or missing teeth. The implantation process involves placing a titanium implant into the jawbone, where it fuses with the bone. A crown or prosthesis is then fitted, depending on the number of implants required.
- Prosthetic tooth replacement. The most common method of reproducing the crown of a tooth is to take an impression of the tooth, which is prepared outside the mouth for the fabrication of a crown. This can be fitted at a later appointment. This method of tooth restoration involves the use of a strong restorative material.
- Professional teeth whitening. This procedure helps you to achieve a beautiful smile and self-confidence. The team at Farfaras Dental Clinic is fully capable of achieving the desired results in this direction. In order to consolidate the results of the whitening procedure, it is recommended not to consume food with high colouring (berries, beetroot, sweet carbonated drinks, tea, coffee) for the first 24 hours after the procedure.
In addition, the clinic diagnoses patients with X-rays, makes personal protective mouth guards, including night guards. The use of the latter prevents damage to teeth during sleep and reduces muscle strain on the jaw joint. The centre's staff welcome patients in a comfortable and welcoming environment. The centre's staff are constantly learning and implementing the latest treatment methods.

Smalto Dental Clinic, Nicosia
The clinic has been serving patients in the Cypriot capital since 2008 as an extension of Dr Vasiloudes' practice. In 2019, the team moved into a modern and comfortable 4-storey building that can be considered a benchmark for medical facilities in Cyprus. The staff use the latest equipment, treatment protocols and techniques. Among its many awards, the clinic received the Silver Medal among all medical centres in the country and the State Architectural Award in 2020. It is a regular recipient of the What Clinic International Award for quality patient care. The main areas of treatment are
- Paediatric dentistry. Experienced paediatric dentists help children to have healthy and strong teeth from an early age. At the same time, the medical staff is tasked with eliminating any fear or stress that children may experience in relation to dentists or treatment procedures. Special attention is given to oral hygiene and the replacement of milk teeth with permanent teeth.
- Treatment of gum disease: A possible cause of inflamed and bleeding gums and their increased sensitivity is periodontal disease. If these symptoms occur, the patient should see a specialist. Treatment of this diagnosis is usually carried out without surgery.
- Maxillofacial surgery. If necessary, especially in the case of severe deterioration of the oral cavity, surgical intervention is required, which in certain cases can be the most effective way of treatment. These procedures include the forced removal of wisdom teeth, implantation and root canal treatment. The clinic has created an atmosphere where even the most anxious patients can trust the skills of local dentists and surgeons.
- Orthodontics. This is not just about straightening teeth. Orthodontic treatment is used to correct misaligned jaws, problems with chewing and speech, and other dental abnormalities. The clinic's specialists use invisible braces in the course of treatment.
- Cosmetic dentistry. One of the most effective methods of improving the facial expression and aesthetics of the lower face. Procedures include extensive use of digital technologies. This area also includes teeth whitening and restoration of damaged teeth.
- Emergency dental care. The clinic's specialists provide assistance in dental emergencies. These include injuries, sudden destruction of teeth and severe pain in the mouth. Treatment is primarily aimed at relieving pain and eliminating the consequences of mechanical destruction.
The Smalto Dental Centre offers comprehensive preventive services to detect diseases of the teeth and gums at their earliest stages. For the convenience of patients, the medical staff speaks many languages.

Pashias Dental Clinic, Limassol
The clinic was established in Limassol in 1990 with the vision of providing patients with first class dental care in a comfortable and welcoming environment. The director and founder of the clinic is implantologist Dr George Pashias. The main areas of treatment at the clinic are dental implants, teeth whitening and cosmetic dentistry. The clinic also offers services such as
- Implant placement. Indicators of the reliability of dental implants vary depending on where in the jaw they are placed. In practice, the average figures are close to 98%. With proper care, implants can last a lifetime. An overwhelming number of patients report that the implant procedure itself causes minimal discomfort: in most cases, a properly placed implant is less painful than a tooth extraction. Implants require the same care as natural teeth, including brushing, flossing and mouthwash.
- Teeth whitening. Smoking cigarettes, eating and drinking foods and drinks, and taking medicines stains your teeth. The easiest way to regain a bright and attractive smile is to have your teeth whitened. This procedure is completely safe. To maintain the condition of your teeth at home, it is recommended that you use the appropriate toothpaste.
- Cosmetic dentistry. Pashias Clinic replaces old amalgam fillings with high quality composite or ceramic fillings. Veneers are also possible with the help of digital dentistry. Such procedures greatly improve the comfort and aesthetics of the mouth.
- Digital dentistry. The CEREC system is used in more than 25,000 clinics in over 50 countries around the world. The CEREC treatment procedure eliminates the need for ceramic impressions (the CEREC 3D camera scans a specific tooth in a matter of seconds), temporary restorations including fillings and crowns (permanent ceramic fillings are ready for immediate placement and the patient only needs to visit the dentist once), and the design of the restoration is performed on the CEREC image acquisition monitor.
The clinic management rightly believes that its staff are the heart and soul of the practice. Each member of the team is committed to providing a competent response to every patient's challenge.

Evita M. Sizopoulou dental surgeon,
Evita M. Sizopoulou Dental Surgeon, Limassol
A modern dental clinic in the centre of Limassol. The aim of the staff is to create or restore a beautiful smile for their patients. Emphasis is placed on the prevention and avoidance of dental problems and the minimisation of surgical intervention. Both adults and children are seen at the clinic, as oral health and a trusting relationship with the dentist are established in the early years of life. The clinic offers the following services
- Teeth cleaning. This is a process in which the dentist removes deposits of microbial plaque or tartar from the surface of the teeth using a special ultrasonic device. Once the plaque has been removed, the teeth need to be polished with a special granular paste to remove the pigments deposited on the teeth (as a result of drinking wine, coffee and smoking). The duration of the procedure varies and depends mainly on the amount of deposits and pigments on the surface of the teeth and the number of teeth in the patient. The cleaning should be carried out at regular intervals, together with an oral check-up, as prescribed and carried out by the dentist.
- Fluoridation is the process of applying a high concentration of fluoride to the surface of the teeth after brushing. It is used to reduce the cariogenic activity of oral microorganisms or to reduce sensitivity to cold irritants.
- Endodontic treatment - denervation. The inside of a tooth is made up of a series of root canals filled with pulp. The length and shape of these canals can make tooth extraction difficult, and pulpitis (from the word 'pulp') is a very sensitive and painful condition. During endodontic treatment, the root canals are first cleaned medically or with instruments and then filled with "hot gutta-percha". Once the endodontic treatment is complete, the tooth must be closed immediately with either a filling or a crown.
- Making removable dentures. Dentures are designed to replace both missing teeth and soft tissue. Partial dentures replace a missing fragment, while full dentures replace the entire upper or lower dentition. Modern dentures are very stable and should be removed from the mouth for 5-6 hours a day for hygiene.
- Treating gingivitis. Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums caused by the build-up of tartar on the surface of the teeth. In this case, the condition of the gums is as follows: they are swollen and reddened, with a tendency to bleed. This disease can be provoked by stress, hormonal disorders, pregnancy, taking certain medicines. Treatment of gingivitis is based on thorough removal of tartar and plaque. For this reason, the emphasis is placed on professional dental cleaning and the patient's oral hygiene at home.
The clinic staff try to pay maximum attention to the patient as a whole, not just to the teeth. Due attention is paid to the possible presence of other diagnoses or symptoms in the clinic's guests.
