Cyprus continues to digitalise its public services. Foreign nationals legally residing in the country can now renew several types of residence permits entirely online. The new service significantly simplifies the process, allowing applicants to submit documents, pay government fees, and track the status of their applications through a single online platform.
The launch of the platform forms part of the government's broader programme to modernise public services and reduce bureaucracy. The new system is expected to ease the workload of immigration offices while making application processing times more transparent.
Who Can Use the New Service?
The online platform is available to third-country nationals who already hold a valid residence permit in Cyprus and wish to renew it before its expiry. The system may also be used by employers submitting applications for foreign employees, as well as authorised representatives, including law firms, organisations, and individuals acting under a power of attorney.
During the initial phase, the platform supports online renewals of temporary residence permits for employed workers, domestic workers, employees of foreign-interest companies, as well as permits issued under family reunification and long-term residence schemes. The service does not yet cover first-time residence permit applications and is currently limited to renewals of existing permits.
How the Application Process Works
All required documents are uploaded through the applicant's personal online account. Users can also pay government fees, select the service centre for any required follow-up procedures, and monitor each stage of the application process.
Applicants only need to visit a government office if legislation requires biometric data collection or a handwritten signature. The remainder of the process is completed remotely, making the service particularly convenient for residents across different regions of the island.
To access the platform, applicants must have a verified CY Login account, the unified authentication system for Cyprus' government digital services. As before, residence permit renewal applications must be submitted no later than one month before the expiry of the current permit.
The Digitalisation of Immigration Services Continues
The new platform was tested in a pilot phase from the end of May 2026 and has now been officially rolled out nationwide. According to government estimates, once fully implemented, around 73% of all residence permit renewal applications within the supported categories will be processed through the online platform.
When first-time applications for the same permit categories are eventually moved online, the digital service is expected to cover approximately 60% of all immigration applications. In the longer term, the authorities plan to gradually extend the system to additional residence permit categories, allowing around 25% of all immigration applications in Cyprus to be processed electronically.
The expansion of digital immigration services is part of Cyprus' wider digital transformation strategy. The government continues to move administrative procedures online in an effort to reduce queues, speed up document processing, and make interactions with public authorities more convenient for both Cypriot citizens and foreign residents.
