Limassol General Hospital is due for a major overhaul. Work to modernise the General Hospital will begin in the coming weeks.
This was announced recently by Christos Nicolaou, a representative of the State Health Organisation (OKYPY).
He explained that the project was supposed to start last year, but was delayed due to objections raised by one of the contractors during the tendering process. At present, all conflicts have been resolved and the company that won the tender is ready to start renovating the building.
The estimated cost of the project is €23,546,100. The entire amount will be provided by the European Union.
According to the project documentation, the hospital building will undergo a complete renovation of its interior, the renovation of the sewage and electricity systems and the strengthening of the infrastructure for people with disabilities.
The project also includes the landscaping of the adjacent area and the purchase of new equipment, furniture and inventory for the medical centre. The hospital will create a new infectious disease unit based on the experience gained during the coronavirus pandemic.
There will also be a new dialysis unit on the first floor (above the primary care unit). The current dialysis unit will be converted into a space for day patients, who will be able to receive treatment without having to enter the main hospital building.
It should be recalled that the 7-storey building of Limassol General Hospital, which covers an area of more than 40,000 m2, is located in the Polemidia district. The hospital has more than 20 departments, employing more than 120 doctors and medical staff.
