The Department of Environmental Protection of Cyprus has approved a revised project for the construction of a large-scale campus for students of the University of Cyprus in the municipality of Aglantzia in Nicosia.
Thus, by 2030, 13,820 students of the leading educational institution of Cyprus will have new rooms in dormitories.
The total area of the development will be 257,650 m2. The new campus will contain: academic buildings, dormitories for students, multi-level parking, a large green park, an outdoor sports area, a stadium, an Olympic swimming pool, a cultural center, an outdoor amphitheater and recreational areas.
The realization of the grand project is taking place in 4 phases:
- Phase 1 (2020 - 2022) - project development.
- Phase 2 (2023 - 2026) - construction of academic buildings and student dormitories.
- Phase 3 (2027 - 2030) - creation of infrastructure on the campus.
- Phase 4 (after 2030) - expansion of the campus.

As a reminder, the University of Cyprus was founded in 1989 and the students have been admitted since 1992.
Today the University of Cyprus is on the 440th place in the world according to the QS World University Rankings. Graduates and teachers of the university have repeatedly won such major awards as Cyprus Research Awards, IZA Prize and others. The institution is accredited by the European Commission.
Among the graduates of the University of Cyprus are politicians, journalists, and representatives of creative professions. Journalist Anna Prodromou, economist Anna Theologou, politician Dogouche Deria, singer Maria Elena Kyriacou graduated from the university.
The University of Cyprus offers its students study programs in the following specialties: economics, management, engineering, and psychology. A specialized career center helps students to make a resume and gives recommendations on choosing a job and interview.
The main goal of the University of Cyprus is to excel in scientific research, to expand international scientific recognition and to become a leader in the Mediterranean region. The task of the faculty of the institution is to develop specialists capable of working for the benefit of society and solving global problems of our time. Today there are about 7 thousand students studying at the University of Cyprus.
