The Cyprus Environment Ministry has received an application from EUNICE WINDPARKS (INTL) HOLDINGS LTD for the construction of a new photovoltaic park, which will convert solar energy into electricity using special panels.
The main objective of the project is to construct and operate an autonomous power unit to generate electricity from the photovoltaic system.
According to the release, the new power plant, which will use the latest photovoltaic energy technology, will be located near the village of Holetria in the Paphos area. The photovoltaic park will have a capacity of 3.1MW.
The total area of the development site will be over 30 thousand m2, of which the PV park will cover 20 thousand m2. It is worth mentioning that the land on which the PV park will be built has been purchased by the company for this project.
The approximate cost of the project is estimated at 300 thousand euros.
As for the operational phase of the park, it is expected that it will not harm the environment. On the contrary, this project will help to meet the region's energy needs and reduce the country's dependence on imported and non-renewable energy sources. According to the local municipality, the construction of the photovoltaic park will take about 15 months.
It should be remembered that the problem of energy efficiency has always been serious on the island.
The small size of the island and the lack of natural minerals from which fuel can be produced make Cyprus vulnerable in terms of electricity consumption. Only new technologies can enable the country to save electricity and thus spend much less money on it.
Cyprus is therefore currently focusing on renewable energy sources, particularly solar panels. As a result, photovoltaic parks are springing up all over the island, and there is great hope for the future.
