The company SAOLA Ltd has submitted three separate applications to the Cyprus Department of Environment for the construction and operation of modern photovoltaic parks in the community of Agios Theodoros, Larnaca district. These projects aim to increase the share of renewable energy in the national power grid and reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere.
Public consultations will run until November 26, 2025. Local residents and stakeholders can review the project documents and submit their feedback as part of the public consultation process.
Details of SAOLA Ltd Projects
The first project involves the construction of a 5 MWp solar park with an energy storage system of 5 MW / 15 MWh. The second project is a 5.5 MWp photovoltaic installation with an energy storage system of 5.5 MW / 15 MWh, designed to stabilize energy supply to the grid and reduce peak-hour loads. The third project foresees the development of a 4 MWp solar park with a storage system of 4 MW / 10 MWh.
All projects will be built on land owned by the investor. According to the environmental reports, the selected sites do not intersect with wild bird migration routes and do not fall within Natura 2000 protected zones, thus avoiding potential negative impacts on the region’s flora and fauna.

Public Consultations and Project Transparency
On April 30, 2025, SAOLA Ltd’s research team and representatives sent an official letter to the head of the Agios Theodoros community, proposing an open presentation of the projects for residents. Following coordination with municipal authorities, the public meeting was held on September 11, 2025, in the village.
During the presentation, specialists shared project details, answered residents’ questions, and explained the benefits of transitioning to solar energy. The event’s goal was to ensure transparency and public participation in decisions related to the development of “green” infrastructure.
Contribution to Climate Goals and a Sustainable Future
According to the environmental reports, installing energy storage systems in solar parks is not just a technological upgrade but a necessary step toward creating a sustainable energy network. Storing excess energy will allow for more efficient electricity management and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
The SAOLA Ltd projects play a key role in achieving Cyprus’s national energy targets by 2030, which aim for a significant increase in renewable energy use and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Moreover, these projects will create new jobs, enhance the island’s energy independence, and make the Larnaca region one of Cyprus’s leaders in clean energy development.
