Limassol municipality will soon start work on a new infrastructure project in the Neapolis area.
The Cyprus Environment Ministry recently granted permission for the construction of a new jetty and the upgrading of the area in this part of the city.
According to the press release, the municipality intends to reconstruct the existing boat launch on Akti Olympion beach, build a new jetty next to it and deepen the seabed in an area measuring 34x34 metres.
The new jetty will be 15 metres long and 2 metres wide. It will be built to the west of the existing jetty.
The piles of the jetty will be metal and nailed to the seabed. The floor will be timber at 0.8 metres above mean sea level (MSL). For safety reasons, a 1.10 metre high railing will be installed around the entire perimeter of the dock, with intermittent chain openings for boat access. The jetty will also be equipped with modern solar-powered lanterns.
Based on the Environmental Impact Assessment study submitted by the Limassol Municipality in April 2021, the cost of the project is estimated at 300 thousand euros.
It should be noted that the project will be located in an area for which the Cyprus Ports Authority is the licensing authority. At the same time, it will be located in a fairly developed tourist area.
From an urban planning point of view, this neighbourhood falls within the Da2 protection zone (green areas, parks, sports grounds, forests, isolation strips, protection of topographical objects, etc.).
