On Tuesday the 15th of October, the Ayia Napa Municipality signed an important contract with Wade Adams Contracting (Cyprus) Ltd for the construction of the new multi-purpose park in the town.
The contract was signed on behalf of the municipality by Christos Zanettou and on behalf of the contractor by Theoharis Constantinou.
According to a release from the Ayia Napa mayor, the cost of the project is estimated at €4.21 million plus VAT. The works will start next week and will take about 16 months. According to the plan, the new public space will be located in the center of the resort, on a plot of 34 thousand m2.
The park will have a central square, a promenade with pavilions and cafes, a children's playground, an artificial lake, a botanical garden, a mosaic square, an observation deck with a panoramic view of Ayia Napa and the sea, kiosks for selling local products during various events, a pedestrian bridge, parking for 50 cars (including for people with disabilities), as well as public buildings. According to the municipality's vision, the park will be able to unite the west and east coasts of the city.
The park with an area of approximately 34 thousand m2 will be located near the city center. Our main goal is to create a green space that will become a place of attraction for the residents and visitors of Ayia Napa. The project is being developed as part of the modernization of the city center. We carried out the initial study in 1999. It was updated in 2019. And now we are finally ready to start implementing this ambitious idea," said Christos Zanettou.
The mayor of Ayia Napa also mentioned that similar projects are currently underway in Avgorou Village and Pachna. It is worth mentioning that the new park will be built within the framework of the EU-funded cohesion program Thalia for 2021-2027.
