The most prestigious university of the island, the University of Cyprus, will have a new building for the medical school, which will be named after Nicolas Shacolas.
On Friday, December 10, the Rector of the University of Cyprus, Tasos Christofides, signed a contract with the CEO of A. Aristotelous Construction Ltd, Aristotelis Aristotelous, who will be engaged in the implementation of this important project.
The event was also attended by the main patron of the University of Cyprus Nikos Shakolas and his family. Christofides greeted everyone present and said that the university, its students and teachers will be eternally grateful to the benefactors. Shakolas praised the university and noted that he is confident that the new building for the Faculty of Medical Sciences will further enhance the prestige of the University of Cyprus.
According to the release, the building area will be 8,500 m2. The new campus will have four floors: two above ground and two underground. Administrative offices and classrooms will be located on the ground and ground floors, parking and a laboratory will be located on the ground and 1st floors.
The estimated cost of the project is estimated at 24 million euros. Among them: 9 million euros will be donated by the Nikos and Elpida Shakolas Foundation, the remaining 15 million euros will be covered by a loan from the European Investment Bank and the university's own funds.
Construction of the new campus will begin on January 10, 2022. The project is expected to take about 3 years to complete.
