Tender for construction of new marina in Paphos to be announced in September

One of Paphos's most highly anticipated infrastructure projects, the construction of a new marina, is preparing to begin. On Thursday, August 7, Andreas Dimitriadis, head of the Cyprus Association of Major Developers, announced that the request for proposals will be released in early September.

The legal review is complete

According to the latest information received from Costas Koumis, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, all tender documentation has been sent to the legal department for final approval. The tender was originally scheduled for June, but was delayed due to the need for legal amendments. The project is now in the final stages of approval.

Dimitriadis emphasized that Koumis assured all interested parties that there would be no significant delays. All participants in the process are confident that the project will begin without further bureaucratic delays.

The project is significant for the Paphos region

The future marina in Potima Bay, located between Peraia and Kissonerga, will be a vital maritime infrastructure facility on the west coast of Cyprus. It will not only relieve the existing harbors but also become a tourist and commercial magnet, opening up the region to yachting, new jobs, and increased investment appeal.

The project has been under discussion for several years, but it has only now reached the implementation phase. Given the growing interest in real estate and investment in Paphos, developing the coastal area is strategically important for the region.

Cyprus is focusing on sustainable development and tourism

The new marina is an integral part of the government's broader strategy to modernize Cyprus's tourism infrastructure. With the growing demand for premium coastal properties, the new marina in Paphos promises to be a significant growth driver for the economy and a catalyst for improving the quality of life in the region.

The tender will be open to international companies, underscoring the project's transparency and scale. It is focused on high standards of sustainable construction and environmental safety.

The project's development stages

The project to build a new marina in Paphos has a long and complicated history. The first tender was announced in 2007, but a series of legal proceedings between the bidders prevented the project from being implemented. Several developers came and went, but construction was halted each time due to financial or legal obstacles.

In early 2020, the project was revived, and after lengthy proceedings, the tender was awarded to a consortium of Deloitte Ltd. and Triton Consulting Engineers SA to conduct the necessary research. Despite having approved plans and being ready for construction in 2021, work was postponed again due to complaints from the unsuccessful bidders. The project did not receive final approval until 2024.

According to the latest approved plan, the marina will be built in the Potima area. The 155,000-square-meter site will have 1,000 berths for yachts, as well as 42,000 square meters of commercial and residential facilities. The project is expected to take three years to complete.
