The municipality of Geroskipou has announced the upcoming completion of a large-scale reconstruction of the Olympic swimming pool, which is an important part of the region’s sports infrastructure. The reopening of the upgraded facility is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026, that is, by the end of September. After modernization, the pool is expected to meet modern safety and comfort standards.
The project is already being described as a significant step for the development of sports in the Paphos area. The renovated complex will be used both for professional training and mass sports, which is especially important amid growing interest in a healthy lifestyle in Cyprus.
Who is funding the reconstruction
The project is fully financed by the CSO (Cyprus Sports Organization). The municipality of Geroskipou emphasized that the work is being carried out in close cooperation with the organization, allowing the project to be implemented without delays and in full compliance with all technical requirements.
This type of cooperation is becoming increasingly common in Cyprus, where state and municipal bodies combine resources to modernize sports infrastructure. It enables faster upgrades and helps maintain facilities at European standards.
What will change after the renovation
The reconstruction budget amounts to €360,000. Despite the relatively moderate cost, the project includes a comprehensive upgrade of key pool elements. This is not a cosmetic repair, but a full structural modernization.
As part of the works, old metal walls are being dismantled and replaced with new concrete structures that will provide greater durability and stability. The pool perimeter and surface are also being fully renewed, improving safety for visitors.
Special attention is being paid to technical issues that have accumulated since the facility opened. In particular, the problem of water stagnation is being resolved, which previously affected operational quality. At the same time, engineering systems, including water supply and filtration, are being upgraded—an essential step to meet sanitary standards.

History of the facility and its importance for the region
The Olympic swimming pool in Geroskipou was built in 2005 and became part of the Geroskipou Sport Center. The sports center is located just 3 km from Paphos harbor and plays an important role in the life of the local community.
The complex includes a 50-meter outdoor pool with 10 lanes, making it suitable for competitions and professional training. In addition to the pool, the site features a gym and other sports facilities used by both local residents and athletes. Over the years, the facility has become one of the key venues for the development of water sports in the region. However, over time, the infrastructure required upgrades to meet modern standards.
After reopening, the facility will offer more comfortable and safer conditions for both professional athletes and amateurs. The improved infrastructure will allow for higher-quality training and the hosting of sporting events.
