The renovated Spyros Kyprianou stadium in Limassol will open in early July

The modernisation of the Spiros Kyprianou Indoor Stadium in Limassol is now complete.

The renovated sports venue will officially open in early July, with the President of Cyprus in attendance. In late August or early September, the stadium will host matches in the group including the Cyprus national team for the 2025 FIBA European Basketball Championship.

Renovation work on the facility began in August 2024. A&A Apostolides completely transformed the stadium in just a few months. The total cost of the renovation was €14.5 million. The Cyprus Ministry of Transport, Communications and Public Works supervised all stages of the renovation. This included:

  1. installing a new video surveillance system (a mandatory requirement under modern security standards),
  2. replacing sports equipment (including new baskets, scoreboards, video panels and flooring),
  3. renovating spectator areas (from carpets to seats),
  4. creating facilities for people with reduced mobility,
  5. constructing new car parks and park-and-ride facilities, and
  6. landscaping the surrounding area.

The sports facility can now host sporting and cultural events of international standing. Andreas Mousouridis, the head of the Cyprus Basketball Federation, emphasised that the stadium will be more than just a venue for matches; it will be a true symbol of the country's sporting future.

This is not just a renovation, but a complete transformation. The stadium has been given a modern look, and has become accessible, technologically advanced, and comfortable for everyone, from athletes to spectators.

He also noted that teams from other countries have already expressed interest in using the Spiros Kyprianou Stadium for their official matches and training sessions. There is no doubt that the renovated stadium will become Cyprus's main indoor sports arena, ready to host major tournaments, concerts, and cultural events.

It is also worth mentioning that Cyprus will host the group stage of EuroBasket, one of the most prestigious basketball tournaments, for the first time in its history, which is a unique opportunity for the island nation to make its mark on the international stage and attract thousands of fans.

Hosting the final stage of the 2025 FIBA European Basketball Championship in Limassol is expected to be a historic event for Cyprus, as it will be the first time the country has hosted a competition of this scale. The tournament will attract fans from all over Europe and bring together the best European basketball stars in one arena. This large-scale event will strengthen Cyprus's international image as a venue for major sporting events. It will also create new investment opportunities in sport and tourism, while giving a powerful boost to the development of youth sport on the island.
