The renovation of the former residence of the Chief of Police in Larnaca has been completed.
This was announced recently by the local municipality.
Work on the project has been underway for about two years. The modernisation of the two-storey architectural monument cost the Larnaca municipality almost 1 million euros.
The restored Police Commissioner's House, built during the British colonial period, has been fully restored and is awaiting its new use. It is hoped that it will be given to the Athens University of Technology. Together with neighbouring government and residential buildings, it can be used as classrooms for students,' the municipality said.
The former residence of the Larnaca police chief is located in the Drosha neighbourhood, in the city's recently opened Salina Park.
At the centre of the 1.4-hectare park is an artificial lake, behind which is a café. There is also a children's playground, an amphitheatre, walking and cycling paths and around 200 trees have been planted.
The project cost 2.5 million euros. The park was co-financed by the European Union as part of the THALIA 2021-2027 programme. Without the help of European funds, it would be impossible to improve the quality of life of citizens. The project was developed by Elena Sofianu Olimpiu, who won the architecture competition for 2020. The realisation of the idea has been entrusted to the consortium Wade Adams Contracting (Cyprus) Limited - AKI Constructions Ltd JV. In January 2023, Larnaca Municipality signed a contract with this organisation to carry out the construction works, which took more than a year.
