The completion of the major reconstruction project at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia is just a few months away.
This was announced recently by the capital's municipality.
According to the municipality, the grandiose project should be ready for use in the first quarter of 2025. A slight delay in the work is due to the recent strike by concrete workers. As a result, the previously approved timetable has had to be shifted slightly.
Recall that the reconstruction of the GSP stadium in Nicosia started in November 2021. However, it was postponed several times. First because of the coronavirus pandemic, then because of disruptions in the supply of building materials. The original plan was to complete the stadium within 24 months of starting work. But the deadline has been pushed back by almost a year.
Work is being carried out on the site between Grigori Afxentiou, Evagorou and Vasileos Pavlou streets, to the east of the Ministry of Finance building in Nicosia.
Following the radical modernisation of the GSP Stadium, the public will have new restaurants, cafes, a children's playground and shops where they can stroll, have a coffee, a snack and shop. At the centre of the stadium will be a town square with an open-air amphitheatre, which will provide seating for film screenings. For the convenience of visitors, there will be two underground car parks with 554 parking spaces, including 33 for the disabled, 28 for people with reduced mobility and 12 for electric cars.
The project has a budget of more than €20 million and includes not only the reconstruction of the stadium, but also its maintenance by the development company for the next 10 years.
Money for the project has been allocated from the EU Cohesion Fund, the state budget and the Nicosia municipality as part of the 2021-2027 Regional Development Programme.
According to the municipality, the reconstruction of the GSP stadium is a very important project in the heart of Nicosia, which will give a boost to the development and regeneration of the capital's historic centre.
