What does registration in the CIR mean?
Cyprus’s Central Information Register contains information on individuals and organizations associated with issuing checks without sufficient funds. The register is used as part of established financial screening procedures. It is important to distinguish between the number of bounced checks and the number of registered persons or entities: one individual or organization may be linked to several checks. The September figures show an increase in both the number and total value of bounced checks compared with the previous year. However, for January through September 2026, the overall number and total value of checks issued without sufficient funds remained below the corresponding figures for 2025.
