The construction of a new sewage system in Polis Chrysochous will be completed in 2029.
This was announced by the mayor of the town, Yiotis Papachristofis, on Monday 30 December.
In an interview with the Cyprus News Agency, he explained that the contract for the project was signed in November 2023, but work is not expected to start until the first half of 2026 at the earliest.
He said that once completed, the project "will bring significant benefits, especially in terms of the ability to use treated water, which has wide applications in the energy and agricultural sectors".
He added that the contract for the project includes 'the provision of services for the preparation of the study and design of the sewerage network for the collection of wastewater and rainwater', as well as the preparation of tender documents for construction.
Mer also said that the management of the contract is the responsibility of the Department of Water Resources Development and that it will be implemented within the framework of the government's Thalia 2021-2027 plan for the use of European Union Cohesion Policy funds.
