Renovations completed in the historic Agia Fyla in Limassol

The renovation of the historic centre of Agia Fyla in Limassol has been completed.

A gala event was held on Sunday 19 May to mark the occasion. The event was attended by the Minister of Transport, Communications and Public Works, Alexis Vafiadis, and the Mayor of the city, Nikos Nikolaidis.

Addressing the guests, Vafiadis said that this was a project that would help improve the quality of life for the residents of Agia Fila. For his part, Nikolaides said that the modernisation of the historic core of Agia Fila will lay a solid foundation for a new course of development for Limassol's largest district.

The project we are launching today is the crowning achievement of the municipality's priority policy to revitalise and modernise the districts of Limassol," said Nicolaides.

It is recalled that the renovation of the historic centre of Agia Fyla took place in several stages. The architectural project was developed by the AA&U-Socrates Stratis office together with the Inb2in studio of Maria Hatzisotirou.

The realisation of the grand idea was entrusted to AN Christou Properties & Construction Limited. As a result, the contractor completely renovated the central square and the facades of all the residential buildings in the area, repaired the roads and laid new pavements, created green areas and places for public recreation. The works, which covered the area to the south and north of Panagia Chrysaphiliotissa church, also included the installation of a modern lighting system, repairs to underground utilities and measures to improve traffic management in the wider area of the neighbourhood. The total cost of the upgrading of the Agia Fyla area is estimated at €3 million 436 thousand (plus VAT).

Mayor of Limassol Nikos Nikolaidis noted that the municipality and its staff are doing their best, step by step, to transform the city. Over the past 5 years, they have managed to implement many projects with a total value of more than €22 million. Nicolaidis stressed that the modernisation of Agia Fila will help to attract new investment and popularise the area among the residents of Limassol.
