The Larnaca municipality has announced that the reconstruction of the Acropolis and Alki squares is progressing according to the approved schedule.
This announcement comes in the wake of recent media reports of alleged delays.
Furthermore, the municipality assured that the contractor is in constant and close cooperation with the public utility company, which will ensure the smooth progress of the works and the respect of the deadlines according to the published project plan. Larnaca Municipality expressed its confidence in the effective cooperation of all parties involved and hopes that the deadlines will be met as far as possible, thus ensuring the quality and timely completion of such an important project for the city.
.
The project to modernise Larnaca's central squares was designed by AF Modinos and SA Vrahimis Architects and Engineers.
The company's task was to achieve the aesthetic, functional and qualitative renewal of the area and to ensure the smooth and safe movement of pedestrians and vehicles. In fact, the project is expected to complete the upgrading, beautification and traffic management in line with the Sustainable Mobility Plan for the city centre. The two squares, together with the projects planned for the commercial centre of Larnaca, are expected to become new reference points for the city.
According to the plan, the contractor will widen the pavements, install uniform urban lighting with mast lamps, modern benches and beautiful flower beds, and create new parking spaces, including for electric cars. In addition, the drainage system will be upgraded, utilities will be buried and a water feature will be installed with the placement of modern urban technology, including the section that marks the beginning of Ermu Street and the end of Kleanti Kaloger Street.
According to the Larnaca municipality, a total of around €8m + VAT will be spent on the upgrading of Acropolis and Alki squares, as well as the renovation of the surrounding streets.
