Cyprus Interior Minister Nicos Nouris allowed 346 Greek Cypriot refugees to rent Turkish Cypriot property.
It is expected that more than 230 housing units will be given, the largest number of which is located in Limassol (204 units for 300 beneficiaries). Another 20 units for 28 beneficiaries were allocated in Paphos, 2 units for 3 beneficiaries - in Larnaca and 10 housing units for 15 beneficiaries in Nicosia.

After the conflict of 1974, most of the Greek Cypriots who lived in the north moved to the southern areas.
The Turkish Cypriots who lived in the southern part did the same route in the opposite direction. In 2005, the Governments of Turkey and the TRNC established the Real Estate Commission, whose function is to resolve issues regarding the property of Greek Cypriots in the territory of northern Cyprus.
The Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Cyprus is authorized to act as a custodian of real estate, as he can manage the property of Turkish Cypriots for the needs of refugees. He temporarily manages such real estate and ensures its protection and safety until the unstable situation is over.
Since Greek Cypriot refugees need housing, the government decided to rent out houses and apartments of Turkish Cypriots who left them in 1974. They are charged a small fee for rent. One of the conditions is the obligation to return the property to the owners in case of such a need.
Disputes are regulated by the law No. 139/91 to 68 (I)/2012 (Turkish Cypriot Properties (Management and Other Matters)).
