The Peri Poleos project, which was part of the Paphos Cultural Capital of Cyprus 2017 program and aimed to recreate the history of old and forgotten mansions, recall the glorious past and more glamorous era of the city.
Three years have passed since then, but local officials are still trying to revive these most characteristic examples of bygone eras.
So, on Friday, January 8, the mayor of Paphos raised the issue of the reconstruction of old mansions in the city.
Fedonas Fedonos called for the transfer of the famous Dr Horatio Shelley house to the municipal authorities for reconstruction and further use.
The mayor noted that along with this mansion, many others in the city are also the targets of a campaign aimed at accelerating the transformation, modernization and revitalization of significant historic, albeit private, buildings.
He recalled that it was this initiative that made it possible to acquaint the inhabitants of Paphos with the famous mansion of Loizos Filippos in the Exo Vrisi area. As Dr. Panayiotis Touliatos, President of the Department of Architecture at the University of Frederic Nicosia, presented the special architecture of Paphos mansions, while Professor of History at the University of Naples, Dr Yorgos Georgis, spoke about the life and work of Loisos Filippos.
