Cyprus’s industrial sector ended the first half of 2026 on a positive note. According to data from the Statistical Service of Cyprus, the Industrial Production Index stood at 117.6 points in June, with 2021 = 100 as the base year. Compared with June 2025, the index increased by 0.3%.
For the period January–June 2026, industrial production rose by 1.2% compared with the same period of the previous year. The largest increase in June was recorded in mining and quarrying, at 11.4%. Manufacturing output increased by 0.6%, while water supply and materials recovery rose by 1.5%. Electricity production fell by 4%, becoming the main factor limiting overall industrial growth.
Which sectors performed best
Within manufacturing, the most notable increase in June 2026 was recorded in the production of other non-metallic mineral products, up 7.5%. This category includes, among other things, various construction materials.
Production of rubber and plastic products increased by 4.7%. The manufacture of wood and cork products, excluding furniture, rose by 2.3%, while the production of basic metals and fabricated metal products also increased by 2.3%.
At the same time, a number of sectors recorded declines. The most significant decrease was seen in the manufacture of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment, down 8.5%. Production of electronic and optical products, as well as electrical equipment, fell by 2.4%. Furniture manufacturing, other manufacturing, and the repair and installation of machinery and equipment decreased by 2.3%.

What happened in industry from January to June
Looking at the first six months of 2026 rather than a single month, the picture is somewhat different. The most significant increase during this period was recorded in water collection, treatment and supply, up 11.5%.
Production of basic metals and fabricated metal products increased by 5.1%, electricity supply by 4.3%, the manufacture of other non-metallic mineral products by 3.4%, and the production of wood and cork products by 3.2%.
At the same time, the most notable decline in January–June was recorded in materials recovery, down 8.8%. The manufacture of machinery, equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment fell by 5.9%, while furniture manufacturing and other manufacturing, including the repair and installation of equipment, decreased by 4.2%.
The Industrial Production Index reflects monthly changes in output volumes in mining and quarrying, manufacturing, electricity, water supply and materials recovery. The base year used for the calculation is 2021, which corresponds to a value of 100. Therefore, an index reading of 117.6 means that industrial production in June 2026 was above the average monthly level recorded in the base year of 2021.
The index is calculated taking into account the structure of Cyprus’s industrial sector and the relative weight of different industries. The data are published by the Statistical Service of Cyprus and are also transmitted to Eurostat, including in adjusted form.
