The historic lighthouse in Pervolia and its surrounding area are undergoing modernization.
On Friday, June 13, the Cyprus Ports Authority, the Municipality of Dromolaxia-Meneou, the Larnaca Tourism Development and Promotion Company, and the Cyprus Institute of the Sea and Shipping signed an agreement to preserve, promote, and sustainably utilize this iconic site.
The agreement provides for the lighthouse and its surroundings to be transformed into a modern, multifunctional center that combines scientific, cultural, environmental, and tourist activities. The facility will undergo comprehensive reconstruction and modernization under the agreement. The lighthouse building will be restored and refurbished to host interactive exhibitions, seminars, research projects, and environmental and cultural events.
Advanced technologies will be introduced, including projection screens, cameras, and sensors that broadcast real-time images of the seabed. This allows visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the region's marine ecosystem.
The open area around the lighthouse will be landscaped and adapted for public events, educational excursions, and civil wedding ceremonies. The facility will be equipped with modern lighting, a video surveillance system, and security measures to ensure protection at all times.
The Pervolia Lighthouse is an important part of the region's maritime history and an architectural symbol.
Transforming it into a multifunctional cultural space will revive interest in maritime heritage, attract new tourists, and strengthen the local community's connection to the history and nature of their homeland.
This initiative highlights the commitment of all project participants to creating a model center for sustainable tourism and innovation that will benefit both local residents and international visitors. It is an important step in the region's development and a shining example of how historical monuments can be given a new lease on life in the modern world while staying true to their past.
