A new park called ‘Salina’ has been commissioned in Larnaca. The grand opening of the large-scale public space will take place on Saturday, 23 November.
This was announced by Mayor Andreas Viras on the eve of the event.
Recall that the park with an area of more than 14 thousand m2 is located in the neighbourhood of Drosha, on the site of the former residence of the head of the Larnaca Police. It is a continuation of the existing municipal park of the coastal city. The new public space features a pond with a fountain, an amphitheatre, a walking alley and a children's playground. 200 trees have been planted. The park is equipped to become a comfortable place for leisure, sports and recreation of the city residents. In addition, the project takes into account accessible infrastructure for people with disabilities.
It should be noted that the project was developed by Elena Sofianu Olimpiu.
In 2020, she won the architectural competition, which became the basis for the creation of the new park. It was Olimpiu who authored the project. The realisation of the idea was entrusted to the consortium Wade Adams Contracting (Cyprus) Limited - AKI Constructions Ltd JV. In January 2023, the Larnaca Municipality signed a contract with this organisation for the construction works, which lasted more than a year. The project cost €2.5 million. Part of the funds were provided by the EU European Regional Development Fund.
